Yeah I got Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 and it's pretty good sans the typical Yukes glitches and bugs, though I will admit they improved online so now when someone quits it doesn't kick everyone, instead it puts in AI. Better than 2007/2008.
Will be picking this up as well and transferring CAW's as it allows it. Overall though Wrestling in general is in need of a major overhaul and evolution.

My friend loves to turn on RAW when we're at his house on a monday night, so I've been tuning into wrestling every now and then to see what's happening nowadays. I am actually thinking about picking this one up. One of the main reasons is because I see The Rock is in it, judging by the cover. Definitely my favorite wrestler ever.
Has the complete list been released yet? Last I heard, over 40 wrestlers were in it, but so far the only ones confirmed are the ones on the cover.

Looks pretty solid.

Looks like a good lineup, but apparently the rumor is true: no Macho Man. Very disappointing. :(

Yeah, and I've also heard bad things about the gameplay in this one. Supposedly it's very "arcadey" and somewhat like the early PS1 Smackdown titles.

That looks like a really good lineup but I'll be waiting for the reviews on this one.

How is that a bad thing? The "arcadey-ness" of wrestling games was what made the N64 games so much fun, and the removal of it has tanked the sales of WWE games.

The N64 games had a deeper control system and the gameplay was more realistic, the early Smackdown titles were ridiculously easy and wrestlers often popped right back up after taking a finisher.

What? No they didn't o_O Unless you started out the match with all finishers and immediately did one. Then it would make sense that they got up, since you didn't weaken them at first.
I loved the first two Smackdowns.

My all-time favorite wrestling game was Wrestlemania 2000 for N64. Although somewhat limited, it had extensive character creation (especially for its time), create-a-belt, TKOs, Royal Rumble, Cage Match, create a PPV...just had everything but then the later ones started trimming out stuff or changing things no one cared about. What game is most similar to Wrestlemania 2K, I wonder? I liked the blood and TKOs the best, but I remember a time we would create custom wrestlers and custom PPV matches and bet on the outcome with computer AI controlling everything. Good times.

Vince and Macho Man haven't gotten along in years. The rumor is that Macho Man tried to make a move on an underage Stephanie McMahon.
Things seem to be smoothing out a bit though, since there's a Macho Man DVD coming out from WWE. So maybe Macho Man will be a DLC character.

Tanked? The Smackdown games are always a top-seller. There's tons of people that will (ala Madden) just buy every year's version, regardless if there's been any changes besides the rosters.
Now, OTOH, the TNA game did bite the big one, and is probably a big contributor to Midway's financial woes.

Just an FYI!
You can expect a PS3 demo in the US next thursday and I believe XBOX Live should have had one as of yesterday. I have a UK account and I downloaded the demo for the PS3 last night. The controls are nothing like Smackdown, like discussed earlier. All in all, I had fun with it.
The playable characters are:
Hulk Hogan
Andre the Giant
The Rock
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Manager:
Bobby Heanan (And yes, he interfered in my match a lot)

This game looks cool but I'm much more excited about this (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/883/883337p1.html) upcoming THQ release.

I know about their feud but Vince could have put their differences aside for the fans, a'la Van Halen with David Lee Roth. In the mid to late 80's, how many wrestlers were more popular/well known than Macho Man? Hogan for sure. But who else? Andre? Maybe. Roddy Piper? Close but no cigar. That's pretty much it.

Will there be a "turn the dead wrestlers into zombies" mode?

Ooh! I played a little bit of this game yesterday; my friend rented it. Compared to Smackdown, it's pretty different. You have different "levels" of grapples now, disabling you to do certain moves until you've weakened them enough. The game itself is pretty cool.
I did one of the modes, and it was kinda like a Survival mode. You had to beat 10 Legends in order to get some EXP for created wrestlers. Unfortunately I didn't get to look at the other modes.
All in all, I do like the game, but I don't know if I want to pay 60 bucks for it.

From what i've played of the demo i'm gonna have to pass.
Seems more like a game "add-on" rather than a full fledged title. The wrestling is quite different and is really just made to show off your CAW's imo, which just isn't good enough. It's mainly button presses and quick time events...bleh.
MAJORLY disappointed here, this should have been downloadable content cause that's what it feels like, just an extra type of wrestling mode and one i'm not very interested in playing.
I may pick this up when I can get it for $10.

If so, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ2DqtDFlkY) has to be on the soundtrack.

I still have a problem with playing as a WWF Legend but having it called the WWE.

Well I pulled the trigger even after all the reviews and have to say I enjoyed it. Played it for 2 hours last night and got about 20% of the trophies(They seem pretty easy). I enjoy the controls a bit better that SVR. I think altogether this game should have been priced at 39.99 instead of 59.99 but I am satisfied with my purchase.

got it and its awesome..... i went and rented it, I agree its a solid game for 40, not 60... but its a nice game and the ability to add in the smackdown vs raw 09 roster, adds to the goodness.

I was excited for this title as it looked excellent. My friend bought it and we played for no more than 10 mins before we both felt bored. It's decent but it fails to draw you in, the whole thing just felt half assed. Not the worst but I say pass till it hits the bargain bins.

This is one of those games where you have to give it a second chance and learn most of the moves. I bought this around May and barely played it. However, I've been playing it nonstop the last week. I think it's a great game, but needs more wrestlers.

If you have a Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 savefile, you can use all the male wrestlers from that game in Legends of Wrestlemania.

I rented that game to get those wrestlers, the only thing I don't like about it is when my son uses John Cena to kick my arse with whatever legend I use.
