It's been out for acouple weeks, but I havent seen any mention of it on the boards. So, has anyone else bought this besides me?

I'm really liking this, it seems to have more of a engaging story than part 4. I just picked my bride and am currently globetrotting..

I wanted to, buy I mistakenly bought DQ4. Not that it's a big mistake, as I haven't played either and got a good price :)

I hope everyone who hasn't played the original DQ5 picks this up, because it was my favorite of the whole DQ series. It's kinda like Dragon Quest meets Pokemon.

I can always play Dragon Quest 5 so with that said, I'll wait until this one gets a price drop to atleast 19.99 or 29.99 before picking it up.

Besides. One of the greatest RPG titles of all time has finally received a translation for SNES. I've already played and beaten the NES and GBC games, obviously since they're in English. Look for a thread in the classic gaming section bearing slight resemblance to this one.

I'm actually getting to play this game for review on another site, and it's really worth playing so far. I haven't been this enthralled with an RPG since Persona 3 FES (which reminds me, I NEED to play some P4...), it's completely worth picking up if you like the genre!

I intend on getting it soon, but have to wait because I have other purchases planned first (red RE5 Xbox 360 bundle, SingStar Queen).

I'm playing and enjoying the storyline so far, but there's some things that really bug me.

1. Enemies are too easy. I can finish entire dungeons (without having power leveled) using just normal attacks and occasionally healing. I'm on the final chapter and I still haven't had to use magical spells or items. Hopefully things get harder.

2. There's no system to tame that monster you really want. Monster munchies don't appear to help at all. I spent forty minutes trying to pick up a cureslime before giving up.

3. Rejuggling equipment with every new party member is a pain, they need an "optimize" button.

I ordered it and have it waiting at the local game store...but the above quote makes me want to not buy it....

You can get monsters for your party, but you don't have to.

Besides if you like DQ at all you have to get this one. It's the best of the series. :P

I'm about 20 hours in. All I'll say is I'm enjoying it more the deeper I get into the JRPG. The dialog tends to fall a little far into the campy / kitschy when it comes to humor. Could be a big negative for some.

The copy protection was rather entertaining for once!

Actually, no. It's kindof like Dragon Quest 5 meets Dragon Quest 5.

Dragon Quest 5 was the original get a monster in your party type game(if there's another then it's really obscure or it's a pen/paper game.) Shin Megami Tensei doesn't even do it prior as that title comes out one month later. However, since both SMT and DQ5 were released around the same time, you can't really say SMT copied DQ5 as it's only one month apart.

Pokemon was released in 1996, four years after both Dragon Quest 5 and Shin Megami Tensei. So collecting monsters to fight for you is not an original concept that Nintendo made up. Nintendo just had some good marketing and the series became a major hit.

This goes hand in hand with all those people saying Dragon Quest Monsters copied Pokemon. Dragon Quest Monsters copied Dragon Quest 5.

Dude, ease up. I never said Pokemon originated capturing monsters.

I was just trying to give an oversimplified metaphor to explain the game to people who haven't played it before. Saying "Dragon Quest 5 is Dragon Quest 5 meets Dragon Quest 5" doesn't help anybody. A lot of people haven't played DQ5. Everyone has played Pokemon. That's all that was. I didn't say DQ5 copied Pokemon.

BLARRGGGHHHH you're a terrible person and pokemon is horrible! BLARRGGHH!!

Getting back on topic, I'm glad to hear this is being so well received. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Has a strategy guide been released for it?

I got the strategy guide in the mail on Saturday. It seems to be pretty comprehensive, not to mention thick.

I'm about 10 hours in and love the game. I don't even mind level grinding and ramdom battles. Maybe I'm crazy though.

I can't wait for Dragon Quest VI.

Dragon Quest VI is awesome. They use pretty much the same jobs system that was used in Dragon Quest VII. I played about 25 hours into it, and barely scratched the surface (the bugs in the fan translation for the snes got to be rather grating, so I quit).
