View Full Version : Advantages of Lynx I vs. Lynx II?

Howdy-

I'm not trying to start an epic "Tastes great!" "Less filling!" rivalry here...honest! :]

I picked up a Lynx II package (with Batman Returns & Steel Talons & Block Out & Warbirds & a big case & an AC adapter & all manuals) off craigslist. I mainly just wanted Batman & Warbirds & the case, so now I'm left with surplus Lynxage.

I have 1 Lynx I & 2 Lynx IIs. One must go. Part of me wants to keep a I & a II to have an example of each, and part of me wants to have a matching pair of IIs (and more room in my carrying case too...).

I looked at the systems side-by-side & played a little linked Warbirds to try to compare controls, screen, sound, ergonomics, etc. I saw no clear winner.

Is one of them worth more than the other? More reliable? Better by some objective, even quanitifiable, factor?

Anyway, I'll have a Lynx + AC adapter + Block Out cart + Steel Talons cart + Steel Talons manual for sale soon.....just not sure which Lynx yet! :]

Thanks,
-Jason

Take one of the Lynx carts that doesn't have the curved lip on the end and stuff it in the Lynx I. Now remove it.

I hope this influences your decision :)

Also, the Lynx II is wired for stereo output, while the Lynx I only does mono. Plus, Lynx II has a power save function. The battery life also might be better, if I remember correctly. Still, personally, I'd keep one of each.

The Lynx I also has a problem with the finish wearing off. Lynx II does not.

This is true only of the later "Made in Taiwan" Lynx I's (model PAG-0201 I think, vs. 200, or was it 101? )

Anyway, I've always prefered the Lynx I's ergonomics myself, but I know that I'm in the distinct minority... I've got both, and I'm glad I do - I recommend you keep one of each... :)

Shoot, I'd keep all three, and whip 'em all out with Comlynx cables at conventions for some Warbirds multiplayer luvvin'. :rocker:

Thanks for all of the feedback--it's been very helpful. I'll keep one each of Lynx I & Lynx II & ditch my duplicate Lynx II (+ AC adapter + Block Out cart + Steel Talons cart + Steel Talons manual).

Look for a buy/sell/marketplace post soon (or PM me if interested).

Thanks,
-Jason

Not true. I got mine for Christmas, 1989 and mine wore off.
