Hey all,

I recently bought the steering wheel for my Colecovision, and played some Turbo & Dukes of Hazzard. In both games, the vehicles seemed to wander excessivly. It didn't really make a difference in Turbo, but it made Dukes difficult to play. Is this normal behavior for the controller, or is there something goofy with mine?

Hmmmm...Is the controller Steering wheel not being moved when this happens?
Are the cars wandering to the left or right with out moving the wheel..?

When I use these/this controller..It's pretty stable..The wheel keeps the car on the track with no wander..but these wheels are a lot more sensitive then I bigger newer wheel..

Your steering wheel might be jittering like in the Atari 2600 paddle controllers.

I'd say it may be sort of worn...

Yep, if the wheel is steady, the car slightly wanders from left to right.

It's an optical encoded controller, so it can't jitter like a paddle controller, but something may be out of alignment inside. My first impression was that the wandering was written into the program to simulate real driving... But even with the wandering, Turbo seemed way too easy. Then I played Dukes and couldn't keep the thing on the road. Now that I know that it's not supposed to wander, I'll bust it open and see what wrong. Thanks for the help!

Let us know how it pans out FABombjoy. I have a battery acid damaged spare wheel that may have parts you could use (It's PCB is fried- bathed in orange acid x_x )

Maybe a cleaning of the part that reads the wheel cogs? I'm curious to find out.

Hey.. :) "Thank you"..I never knew that,,,..I learned something today..

My estimation would be that something is dirty or worn inside.
Let me know how it turns out..Good luck..

Are you using fresh batteries?

New batteries could solve the problem for you.
