No information other than this link, but it's pretty exhaustive:

Honestly, the fact that it has been customized makes it less valuable to me. It's kinda like buying someone else's bowling trophy or award. Plus, why would he have let this game go on location for three years? It's neat to read the history, but I can't imagine why anyone would want this game, especially since he didn't even design Robotron.

Personally, I wouldn't want this version either. Original or nothing. I'd give him $100 for it....that's about it.

:) I get where you're coming from, but it's still Robotron, whether it's been customized for Steve or not. Bottom line, I highly doubt he'll even get half of what he's asking because like you said, he's not one of the game's designers. $500-600 for a nice working Robotron is more than fair.

The only way I would buy it is if my wife's name was Dianna and my kids were named Chris and Maggie.

Those were also pretty much my feelings, although I missed the part about him not being one of the designers. So it's a "friend of the guy in the next cubicle" thing. Thanks for the heads-up and affirmation, gang!

In the thread I cribbed the link from there was also some interesting information here (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=24956) about the prototype of the sequel, Robotron 2085: Blaster.

I'm starting to think I've heard about it here before, but Google isn't finding anything worthwhile for the game. Anybody got a link handy, or some personal stories about the sequel.

Blaster is the sequel to Robotron and the attract mode begins by stating, "the year is 2085 and the Robotrons have destroyed the human race." It's well known that a prototype of the game featured 30 levels (instead of the 20 levels in the produced version). Like the other Vid Kidz games, one of the play features is that you rescue humans for lots of points.

IIRC Jarvis said the game was developed on the Atari 800.

The guy who posted that he saw a marquee that read "Robotron 2085: Blaster" invented that "memory." Never happened.

You can change the ROMS to say whatever you want, but it's a neat piece of history, I just don't think it's worth $1895...
