Just picked up a bunch of Playstation Star Wars titles yesterday. One of them was the infamous fighting game, Star Wars - Masters of Teras Kasi. I've never played it, but have heard over the years how terrible the game is. So how bad is it? I'll be trying it out this afternoon. I'm just curious as to why is so reviled.

I kinda liked it, but i'm a bit of a Star Wars nut. It was hokey enough that I could be a Storm Trooper and kick Darth Vaders ass.

The controls are clunky and its not always that easy to pull off the moves. It was another of the 3D fighters, that looked so so and when it looks eh, and controls like crud and not all that balanced, it doesn't get much love.

Tear-ass Krazi (as I've been known to call it) isn't one of my fave Star Wars games, I'll admit. I've found that the best way to get any enjoyment out of it is to look at it as the MTV Celebrity Death Match of Star Wars games - it's absurd to have a game where you can pit Han against Chewie, but what the hell, enjoy the absurdity of it (if indeed you can with the aforementioned clunky controls).

star wars nerds are creepy when it comes to something that might break thier precious continuty.

but if you can get past that, its a fun game, and come on you can play as slave leia vs her brother with alightsaber...and you can still win ;-)

Echoing complaints about the controls and balance. I didn't really mind the graphics and I thought the various matchup prospects were neat.

Chalk up another one who really likes the game. I am by no means a Star Wars nut, but it was cool to bring up all these "what if" matches. I really liked the idea of being able to bring a weapon out and it changing your move arsenal, and the fact that each player controlled differently. I agree the balance is way off - as I remember there are only a few characters that can just dominate no matter what, whereas poor ol' Hoar was always getting pummeled. Still, fun fun fun.

in terms of the star wars universe, of course the game doesn't make any sense. that would be more than forgivable if it played well. but it doesn't. calling the controls clunky is a massive understatement. i found it virtually unplayable.

I liked it a lot as a kid...used to play it all the time. But man, I'm pretty sure Mara Jade broke that game.

I think it's just one of those hoard of fighters that's fun if you're just screwing around in it. But being Star Wars means that its failings are looked at extra hard.

This game gets slammed mostly on being under the Star Wars name. It's a clunky 3D PSOne fighter but really, besides Tekken, most PSOne 3D fighters felt that way to me. Just have fun with it and don't expect GOTY material and you'll have fun

It's not really bad, especially when you consider some of the other attempts of the era. It's definitely no Tekken or Soul Blade. But it's worlds better than Zero Divide, Criticom, and Ravenloft Iron & Blood.

All in all, it's a middle of the road fighter from that time.

I actually enjoy this title quite a bit. I've never been a huge fan of fighting titles but for some reason after you get past the awkward controls this game is quite entertaining. You can't beat a fighting game where you can play as a Tuskan Raider or Boba Fett.

This was on the sampler CD that came with my Playstation back in the day. Since it was only the demo, you could only choose from Luke and I think Mara Jade. I wanted to like the game, but I always got my ass handed to me. I never won once.

Not as bad as Criticom.

In all seriousness, it's not that bad. I've played much worse games. Think of this game as getting a paper cut and Action 52 as being kicked in the crotch. I really don't have much to say about Teras Kasi. It's just a generic, poorly made fighter with Star Wars characters.

Getting raped with a power drill isn't as bad as playing Criticom. As for Teras Kasi ... as far as fighting games go it's a 4/10 and as far as Star Wars games go it's probably an 8/10.

Here's a random trivia fact I'll bet many of you don't know. Teras Kasi was impossible to copy in the early days of PlayStation modding because the disc contains a bunch of audio tracks that are shorter than 4 seconds in length. Most of the early burners wouldn't burn audio tracks less than 4 seconds in length. I heard you could copy it by pulling those audio tracks into a WAV editor and extend them to four seconds in length, which could screw up the game but at least it would work. And don't ask me how I know all that.

Back in the day I thought it was great fun to beat up your nerd friends while drunk in Teras Kasi. It's hard to get nerdier than playing a Star Wars fighting game while drunk, unless you do it in costume.

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Viewed as a fighting game, it's pretty poor. Viewed as a Star Wars game, it's also kinda poor in the sense that none of the characters have the same relative level of powers as in the Star Wars universe. As just a fun game to play with friends who aren't hardcore fighting game players, but who enjoyed the Star Wars movies, but are not too into Star Wars, it's actually pretty good. It's cheesy and fun and kinda ridiculous.

Thats because the demo for this game was set to the hardest difficulty(Official Playstation Magazine made a mention of this in their mag about their version of the demo).

I'm kind of surprised I'm not the only person who likes this game. The control sceme wasn't the greatest and it definitely didn't compare to Tekken 3, Dead or Alive and Soul Blade, but it was a fun quirky game. It was also the first(and perhaps only) video game appearance of Mara Jade.

I liked it. Granted, the idea of Chewbacca "fighting" Darth Vader is ridiculous. But I thought it was a fun game with a lot of nice Star Wars touches.
