Someone on Craigslist wants to trade me a 60 gb PS3 and some games for a Premium 360 (20gb version) and some games. The value of the games evens out so I'm basically trading a 360 for a BC PS3 which is a steal. My question is, what is the model number for the 60 gig? I want to make sure it actually is a 60.. Also, what else should I look out for? What are the common problems with these systems?
And I know these questions have been answered somewhere but "Playstation 3" didn't turn up anything and I can't search "ps3", so sorry for the (possible) double post.

It's model number starts with CECHA. The 60GB models had a raised font on the top where it says PLAYSTATION 3. IIRC, it's the only one that has that style logo. I'd just ensure it boots up a game and you should be good to go, I think.
If the person is willing to let you try a few discs, I'd suggest a PS3 game, PS2 blue-back game, and DVD movie just to be safe.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I'll just have to store that information away for later because the dude backed out as soon as I insisted I see the system in action. I'm not super surprised, but it's still a bummer.

Then he was probably trying to rip you off. But like you said, you were already prepared for this.

Sounds like a real shady deal that guy was trying to pass off. Probably a broken/defective PS3 or something along those lines. Hell it may have been a PS1/PS2 glued together.

I think what happened was his PS3 got bricked that one time Sony screwed up their software update via PSN. They wouldn't fix everybody's PS3 for free.
Luckily for me, I didn't go online much and update every time there was a new update.

Update: I now own a 60 gig PS3. I did the "raised letter" test and checked the model number to be sure. Thanks again Oobgarm!
