View Full Version : What newspaper comic deserves a classic game?

I personally think that no comic would be better for a game than Foxtrot, and really, you could make a hack of Family Dog with Quincy instead of the dog and Paige instead of that girl. Then again, it was a bad game to start, but just a thought.

Dilbert would be funny to see too.

Iirc there was a Dilbert one for the PC around ten years ago, doubt it'll be easy to find though.

How about a Calvin & Hobbes game?... well, not in which you play Calvin or Hobbes... instead, you play as Bill Watterson as he exacts violent and bloody revenge against evil boot-leg T-shirt vendors and the guy who made the "Calvin pissing on the Ford logo" decal.

The only good idea I've got is Beetle Bailey. Some sort of third-person shooter where you pick characters with specific skills (e.g. - Cpl. Yo as a tech, Otto as an infiltrator) to round out a squad for specialized missions against some non-specific cartoonish army.

Dilbert would be funny to see too.

You know, now that you mention it, and given what a phenomenon Dilbert was 10 to 12 years ago, it's surprising that there weren't more video games based on the strip than actually came into being. In fact, all I can turn up on a search is this one (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/puzzle/dilbertsdesktopgames/index.html), which looks pretty meh.

EDIT - Looks like Beetle and the Dilbert game were already invoked in the time I took hammering this out. Still like my idea, though.

Hagar the Horrible, in a Golden Axe-style side scroller.

B.C.'s Quest For Tires III.

Snuffy Smith in a first person shooter, reminiscent of Redneck Rampage, but set in the Appalachians.

I'll second the Calvin and Hobbes one. It could rock if made right.

This is exactly what I thought of when I read the thread title, just obviously not as serious as Golden Axe ;)

I think a Pearls Before Swine RPG type game might be fun. You know? Rat, Goat, Pig, and Zebra would make about the perfect party size.

Speaking of Foxtrot I remember really liking the Foxtrot story where they played D&D. Maybe a parody of RPG video games or MMORPGs would be cool. You know, not a real MMORPG, but sort of like those .hack games? I'm thinking maybe an over the top cartoony hack n' slash. Plus the whole game within the game would give you a great angle on all kinds of jokes.

Imagine playing as Jason and having to take out the trash during a climatic moment in the game within the game. There could be lots of little mini-games like that. That would really break up the monotony that tends to happen with hack n' slash style games too. Half of the game would be trying to get back to "playing the game". Plus you could add the whole 4-Player thing where other players could be the other people in the family or play as secondary characters like Marcus and Steve. It could be a lot of fun.

Damn, I definitely came into this topic thinking Calvin and Hobbes. That was my favorite comic growing up. I just imagine an action game where you throw snowballs at Susie, avoid getting caught by your mom as she wants you to take a bath, using the transmorgifer, or even going back in time.

God, that game would be sweet if executed correctly.

Totally agree with you. I love Pearls Before Swine and bought a couple of the books just to have them all together. Great stuff...

I'll 3rd Calvin & Hobbes... of course it'll never happen, since Bill Waterson is a dumbass who doesn't wanna get rich being a license whore... hello, pirates? yeah, we need a Calvin & Hobbes game where you choose to drive a Ford or a Chevy and then you piss all over whichever one you didn't choose... ASAP

you forgot Calvin & Hobbes: Calvinball!

Snoopy/Red Baron vertical 1942/1943ish type shooter.

which hopefully would turn out much better than the recent one in 3D did

The answer is Calvin & Hobbes. I'm thinking a SNES era platformer ala Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse. You can switch between Calvin or Hobbes and they each have different abilities. And the things you guys said before, the snowballs, the transmorgifier, the teacher is a end level boss, etc. I don't see why it couldn't be done as a Wiiware game! Of course Watterson would never go for it. sigh..
