View Full Version : NAVA Gamer's Meeting, March 28th: "Rare and Collectible" Edition (NOW WITH PHOTOS)
digitalpress

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Afficionados. It's FREE, and YOU are invited to attend.
Previously at NAVA...
- Our first ever Street Fighter IV tournament turned up some wicked competition.
- John Hardie discovered porn on his Atari 8-bit computer.
- Many games and systems traded hands between attendees.
- Pictures tell it best:
http://www.digitpress.com/images/store/
March will be the "Rare and Collectible" edition of NAVA. Two fairly under-appreciated but fan-beloved systems - the TurboDuo and Sega Saturn, both armed for playing imports - will take center stage. I will have a good selection of obscure titles and imports available for play. In addition, I'll be using the store's display cases to show a bit more than the store's mini-museum has and will dig up some interesting pieces to show-and-tell to attendees.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
- If you have any show-and-tell items, you can share space behind glass, no worries that anything will get "lifted". We may ask you when you use the space to briefly describe what you're showing and we'll even create an impromptu museum card for your item.
- If you've got interesting Saturn or TurboDuo/PC Engine games, bring them along to play. Note that I will have extra "eyes" assigned to manning and monitoring these game systems as well.
Our 6pm tournament will involve one or more games from the Saturn/Duo library on hand. For certain this will be a SHMUP tournament so if you're a fan of these kinds of games, be sure to be around for sign-ups at 5pm.
See you on the 28th!
When: Saturday, March 28th, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

I'm totally bringing Rondo of Blood. Can't have a Turbo Duo without Rondo up and running. And X-Men vs. Street Fighter for the Saturn, of course.

Great ideas for the upcoming NAVA!! I definitely will bring my copy of Magical Drop 3 for the Sega Saturn [even though you have it already on the Neo Geo cabinet] because it's perfect for some quick multiplayer action. Can someone bring Radiant Silvergun :-P?! I think I could have some potentially cool stuff to show and tell as follows:
-Pop'n Music controller and games
-Official Arcade Style Guitarfreaks controller [not all that impressive though I doubt many people one has seen one]
-Collector's Edition of Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2 for the DS [the witch touching game made by SNK Playmore for anyone who does not know]-
-Deluxe copy of Seaman 2 for the Japanese PS2 with the microphone controller
-Street Fighter Eternal Challenge Artbook
-My copy of Rockman EXE 4.5: Real Operation that comes with the unusual card reader attachment for the Game Boy Advance
-My Famicom Gameboy Micro with the box
-My two Mr.Driller 1 Japanese Strategy guides and two Mr.Driller 2 Japanese strategy guides [I doubt anyone would give a crap looking about these but hey, I am big Mr.Driller nut]
-Negcon and Jogcon [everyone knows about these two Namco PS1 controllers, but they are fun to gawk at]
Someone can give me a yay or nay for any of these items. I can't wait to see what other people bring!

Nah, I was just throwing out suggestions. I probably don't have nearly as many display case worthy stuff as a lot of other members on this board, I am just so excited about the concept that I want to contribute anyway I can :-P!

We have a PC Engine Duo in the store as well as a modded Saturn. Sapphire will be available for play as well. The systems will be hooked up to the HD TV's.
See you in a few weeks!

I'll be heading up from Baltimore again, I don't have much museum quality stuff, but all this Turboduo stuff has me tempted to buy one. Any word on if you guys have any PC-Engine Duo's (Or Ideally Duo-R's) in the store for sale?
Also I'll be bringing up some beer from Charm City itself if anyone would like to ingest a taste of good ol' Baltimore.

I'll be escorting Mr. Roboto up to the Jersey area for laughs, gaming, and awesome conversations to have with everyone once again! Hopefully, as I posted in last April's NAVA posts, this will be the start of frequent NAVAing.
I'm tempted to bring my copy of Saturn Bomber-Man, in hopes of an 8 man Bomb Royale. I personally don't own a muli-tap for the console, but if anyone has one, I'll gladly bring the game, two controllers, and fierce tenacity in the form of epic competition. Not sure if I own any other gems on the system, maybe an import or two. Most of my games are sadly lacking their original jewel casings, but I'll find a way to bring them up.

I've got one at the store, but I believe you can use 2 for Saturn Bomberman, so someone else will have to step up, too!
I'll need an entire display case. :)

The rare stuff is NOT dedicated to TG/Saturn... those are just the systems in play. The display cases are open to any and all interesting relics. Most of the stuff I'm bringing is way before the TG/Saturn era!

Little but sort-of BIG update:
Sadly I will not be able to attend NAVA this time. Reason being (time for HAPPY) I am going to possibly BUY my 1st Car. :) :)
I have been around shopping, and I feel this is the right one. Saturday the day I talk/test drive the car,etc
Refuses to go into long story. So with that said......
Everyone have fun without Me. :) :)

I'm going to try to bring a decent amount of stuff for sale/trade this month (I haven't brought anything for several months). I'll have a random assortment of things for all different systems.
I will have a complete Famicom set-up for sale if anyone is interested. The Famicom itself is working, but the Disk System is not (needs a drive belt and/or possible head alignment). Both are unboxed, but complete.
I was going to try to bring some ColecoVision homebrews for sampling, including the newly released Pac-Man Collection, but due to extremely slow shipping from Canada, it looks like it might not arrive in time. We'll see what happens.
I may also bring my Sega Mark III along with a selection of SG-1000 and Japanese SMS games. Would this be of interest to anyone? I don't know how much room I'm going to have and it sounds like people are bringing a lot of stuff this month...this may not be the month to do this.

It's not much trouble to bring it, I just wonder if there'll be room to hook it up.
I did receive my copy of Pac-Man Collection today, so no worries there. I will bring that along with some other CV homebrews.

I don't have too many rare or unique goodies to bring, but I will try to scrounge up a few.
I will have a complete in box 80GB PS3 for sale. It's in mint condition, and all the accessories are still new in their baggies. It looks brand new. I will also include HDMI, optical audio and network cables. I would consider a partial trade for a 120GB 360 Hard drive, and possibly other things.
I am looking to buy an inexpensive copy of Virtual On for Dreamcast (loose is okay), and a DC link cable (third party is fine). Also any cheap Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 or 8-bit games I don't have.

Im also looking for a power supply for an atari xe system, and some games for that..

Hi guys :)
I should be able to stop by today, I'm an old friend of supergoldzero. I have about a dozen or so N64 cartridges I'd like to sell. Is there anything I have to arrange previously or should I just bring them in? This is my first time coming to NAVA (besides previously happening to walk in on the day of the event last year) but I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun. :D
Thanks,
-Steve

I'm not going to lie- this was one of the greatest NAVA meetings I've been too since I started coming to them, here's why
- We got to see people's rare stuff that I never knew was even around (Jet Grind Radio prototype for N64?) Amazing
- I had many friends of mine new and old come to this one for the first time and they had a blast, and seeing them have a good time makes me feel happy
- Meeting up with everyone again like always
- Life in a Game premiered it's own special episode for April filmed in Digital Press that was awesome and hilarious.
[Random]
- Mickey sold a brand spankin' new PS3 for only $275. Dude.... That's a steal, and it was a 80gb one too. If I had the money I would of picked it up, but my good friend's uncle got it
- There is a new employee there (forgot your name, I think Birdie?) who was extremely talkative and nice to me and my friends
- and that Virtual Boy was cool
- I picked up MadWorld and Pikmin for Wii
- I sold some good stuff for good prices.
I can't wait to see the pictures and video of this month's event, it was amazing. See everyone next month! I had a blast. Next month we should watch Gay Men on a Boat starring Adam Sandler and Mel Gibson!

What a great time! Thanks to everyone who attended. I didn't even get to TALK to everyone yesterday. There must have been 50 people who came specifically for this month's event. I know Greg2600 and Rob2600 were around all day but all I got in was a quick farewell later in the night. One of my high school buddies dropped by with her kids and I only got to chat with her in the 2 minute intervals when someone was being timed for the tournament! I either need some kind of cloning device or I have to schedule my time better.
The store added a Virtual Boy kiosk, thanks to Videogamerdaryll. It needs some work but should be all hooked up by the next NAVA.
Nick (Apollo) won the SHMUPS tournament.
I saw my first-ever episode of "Life In A Game", one which debuted in the store just after the tournament. I have to catch up with the story now.
Nicole takes great pictures.
See for yourself!

Yes, had a fun time also. Rob and I brought our friend Dennis, originally from NJ but visiting from CA. We left, dropped him home, got dinner, came back. Then we had to check out in order to record a new podcast.
The new "rare" items in the showcase were a great idea, and that was the first time I've toiled on a Virtual Boy since around 1996. Always preferable to me to see a classic system hooked up than one of the guitar games. I never seem to make the ones that do. And had a nice "Lost" discussion.
I also wanted to thank whoever brought a box of "Free" stuff, as I needed an AC Adapter for a GBC, and they had some charger/adapter doodad in the box.
Kudos again to Joe and crew.

You guys seriously need to introduce yourselves next time you come. I find that "new" forum members get a little lost in the crowd, whereas if you introduce yourself at least I can help bond you to the regulars. Try it!

I'll be sure to introduce myself next time, although now you'll remember me as the one with the wacky Nintendo branded PC joystick, haha. :) Feel free to use the photos I posted, I should have brought in my digital camera from the car to take some better shots, I'll remember to bring that in next time.
I too have some "rare" (if they are) items to bring next time. A plastic jar of Sonic & Knuckles keychains that use to sit on a counter - and a Pac-Man doll that has a little shirt saying "Hungry for you", I may have some other things, just have to remember. I do have a Sega DS-16 cabinet with a six-cartridge changer... but that's a bit too huge to bring in, haha.

Dan, here! I always feel like a sore thumb when I go to NAVA, but beer induced challenges on Wizard of Wor for the sake of loving make up for it, I suppose. I really wish I took the time to meet and greet more people at these shindigs, but it is always awesome having an adventure with Matt, Carson, and Earl Gray the Third. Joe, it's always a pleasure and an honor to hang out and take in everything the store has to offer, be it crowd, games, and ridiculous stories from Mike. Hopefully we weren't too much of a bother, as I kinda' feel like we are sometimes, but yes, thank you once more for bein' cool with us taking over the store for a day. It has to be said that this most recent NAVA has been the best one I have been to yet. I really liked how everyone got together to show off some really nifty collectibles throughout the day. I also enjoyed burning my brain cells on the Virtual Boy kiosk because I have never played on it before and I always wanted one. It also just so happens that the game that I am most interested in playing on the Virtual Boy, Virtual Wario Land, was in it so that made it all the better [It just so happens that I am working my way through the Super Mario Land and Wario Land series at the moment. Wario Land 3 for the GBC is a classic!]. If my friend Steven [LimeiBook86] comes to another NAVA meeting a little earlier [he did not get there until after 8:00 P.M] I will be sure to introduce him to both Joe and Dylan ;). I will enjoy my New Kids on the Block trading cards that I bought from the store for the rest of time ["Will you be my VALENTINE GIRRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLL!?!?!"].
