If you somehow (http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-announced/) thought (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/04/activision-call-of-duty-6-guitar-hero-5-talk-speculative/) that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2) wouldn't make it this year, then this trickle of news will put your worries to rest. Activision CFO Thomas Tippl confirmed today that Infinity Ward's shooter will definitely be arriving this holiday season and is, apparently, "looking incredible."

He said at an annual Wedbush Morgan Securities meeting (via Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5168137/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-looks-incredible-hits-this-holiday)) that Activision expects Modern Warfare 2 to be "the most anticipated game of the year," going so far as saying "Perhaps the number one game of the year despite the fact that it's only going to launch in the holiday season." That's a lot of bold statements coming from an executive. Hopefully, Infinity Ward's sophomore [I]Modern Warfare game will live up to Tippl's hype.http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Modern Warfare 2 confirmed for holiday '09 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/modern-warfare-2-confirmed-for-holiday-09/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 17:15:00 EST. This is great. One of probably only a handful of games that will probably be as good as they say. Sign me up.

Looking forward to it. Modern Warfare was the first Call of Duty title that really lived up to the hype and it was nice to see IW actually attempt to focus on a story more than just a smorgasbord of random battles with the main selling gimmick of playing as three different countries. I loved how Treyarch/Grey Matter put more emphasis on Big Red One and was totally jazzed to see it successfully merged with the classic CoD multiple-viewpoint gimmick to finally make such a fucking awesome game.

I'm going to buy this because the awesome multiplayer, but I'm wondering how can Infinity Ward really improve on the COD4 engine? I have a feeling this is just going to be a $60 map pack expansion to COD4. The boredom I experienced with COD: World at War kind of put things in perspective. The COD formula is getting old for me (maybe it was mostly due to the tired WWII backdrop).

Either way, all of my friends are chomping at the bit to play this game, so I'm sure we'll have some fun online. Honestly, I'm looking forward to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, 10x more than this game.

hope they put some more time into the single player this time. don't get me wrong, the campaign so far in cod4 is great, but seems to be slipping by way too fast (i'm in act2).

don't care for multiplayer, so i need a great campaign to justify $60.

I think I'm one of the only people who doesn't care about these games at ALL. No offense to those who do, just making an observation.

Most of them are pretty flawed. I've enjoyed various titles in the series but until Modern Warfare, they all had some seriously nagging drawbacks. Either it was a mess of random missions, clunky scripting, botched mission design, poor gameplay decisions or any of a number of other lesser problems. It wasn't until Modern Warfare when everything really finally came together.

As far as the campaign length in the fourth game goes, it wasn't super long but it was nowhere near as short as some people try to sell it as. The fact that it feels like it breezes right by (despite its final length) is a testament to just how much fun it actually is. It's no Chaser or Powerslave, but people try to make it sound like it's Blue Shift or Project Snowblind.

I loved Modern Warfare's multiplayer mode but didn't care for the single player. I was in the beta for world at war and it sucked (treyarch stop making cod games please) and I don't like WW2 era weapons and shit.

Modern Warfare was fun as heck in multiplayer and it had great guns and maps and modes so I look forward to MW2 (made by infinity ward)

Hardcore mode is the only mode anyone should play on :)
