I'm not one to normally buy the classic 'collections', but I ran into a sega collection last night on the 360 and it seemed like the bang was worth the buck. It was only twenty dollars and I've never actually owned a sega, therefore many of the games would be new to me. I ended up not getting the game, but I was close. I'll probably buy it before the week is over. I know. I'm odd.
My question(s) are:
I like collecting carts; are these types of games worth it?
Are there any other good collections (I noticed the megaman and megaman x as well)?
What have you guys done in the past; what have you went for and what have you passed up?
Thanks
I guess anothologies would be on the list as well.

The sega one is definitely worth it. If you tried to buy all of the games on it you'd end up spending way way more.
Having said that, I enjoy owning the original carts. Some collections are worth it, some are not.
Metal Slug Anthology, Sonic Mega/Gems Collection are all worth it. (providing you like those games)
SNK arcade classics volume 1 is not.

You definitely have to weigh bang-for-the-buck when getting one of these collections. That said, the Genesis collection is one of the best 20 bucks I've spent recently. Especially when you compare it to, say, Chrono Trigger DS. Spend 30 bucks to get one 16-bit RPG, or spend 20 bucks to get like 40 of the best games Sega has to offer, including the first four Phantasy Star games, Sonic 1-3, Vectorman 1 and 2, Ristar, and other greatness.

I have Sonic Mega Collection(both versions, on Gamecube and Xbox) and Sonic Gems. Yes, these compilations ARE usually cheaper than vintage copies, virtual purchases($8 apiece for Genesis downloads vs... $13 used for Mega Collection), or Square's expensive, minimal-effort re-releases.
Can't say I care for having to "unlock" some of the games though. I bought the copy, it's on the disc, let me play it! I wouldn't be so mad about it, but sitting there loading EACH GAME 20-30 times is a hassle, and probably not too good ont he hardware itself.
The release of the new Genesis collection, however, makes me suspect the virtual downloads aren't making a terrible fortune if they can stand to release 40 games for less than $1 each on an actual retail disc.

Where are you guys seeing it for $20? Everywhere I see the game it's still $29.99. Still worth it though...

SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 was worth it for me, but it only costed me five dollars. That's new, not used.

Well then... I'm sold. As far as collections and anthologies go... what is available in the US that wasa never available before. That's kinda what I'm interested in.
