I have boxed Hong Kong NES versions of Popeye, Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong. The carts and the instructions are in mint shape...the boxes are in excellent shape also. I only paid about $10 cad each for them.
Are Hong Kong NES carts rare at all? Is there a rarity guide for them?
Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Richie-Rich
I believe that those games are pretty hard to come by over here, though I'm not totally sure on the rarity. If you decide to part with any of them, I'd be interested in any of them.

I went back to the same place I got the games to pick up the Hong Kong NES system but it was already gone. :(

I have Hong Kong versions of Duck Hunt and Kid Icarus. Of course, they're glorified lable variations, but I think they're neat.

I like the boxes because they are the same size as the carts. No foam block.
One of the games is dated 81' .....Is that an early release?

There are also European versions of games (the first releases), that has also small boxes and drawn label art.

Wow that was a useless post... now care if I make a BETTER one?
Ebay has a strict anti piracy policy so you won't usually see them on ebay unless it's a pirvate auction...
Pirate games are basically worthless in my eyes. They pump them out by the millions it's not like they're un common in any way shape or form.
My two cents. :)
These Hong Kong NES carts are not pirates---they are legit, pretty sure of it.

D'oh!
I competely forgot about the Asian and Hong Kong carts! X_x
The label art on those things are generally much better than the US counterparts.
Also i think those things were made for NES users who happen to live in Asia.
Which is weird I know... x_x

They are.
There label are not "pixelized" like most of the original US release. They are most "cartoonish". In europe they also call them "european release".

In Europe, in some countries (Germany for example) the cartoonish labels were released, while other countries (France for example)got the pixelated art. I've seen some HK NES carts on eBay.

I'd say it's early, but not impossible. While I've had a hell of a time tracking down the Famicom's release date (some sites say early 1983,) GameSpot has Donkey Kong listed for the system in 1981. I think it very well could be 1981!
Which game is it, anyways?

Have you ever seen a Nintendo Seal on a Famicom game? o_O

As far as I can recall reading, Donkey Kong was created in 1981, hence it probably carries a copyright date from 1981. Though gamespot does say it was released for the famicom in 1981. I thought the famicom was newer myself...

Anybody know for sure? Actually reading down the page lists 2 more DK games from 82 and 83... so it must have been out in '81 I guess?

yes, actually, it does.
Some of the early NES games (SMB/DH comes to mind) didn't have the seal on them.

Interesting cart, even has the NES SM-HKG regional number/code.

TRM is right. Those HK/Asian carts are not pirates, and they are Nintendo originals.
