Where to look in AUSTIN TEXAS??

The family and I are heading to Austin to visit friends for a couple of days this week and I'd love to get in a little searching time - either flea markets, thrift stores, or game shops.

So, anyone in Austin have any ideas? I can tell you where to go in Dallas in return!

Hello. Ex-Austinite here. I can tell you there are a few places you can check out:

Game Over Video Games. They've got 3 locations. 1 in South Austin (Sunset Village), 1 in North Austin, and one in Round Rock. Check out their site: http://www.gameovervideogames.com/

Additionally, there's Gamefellas: http://gamefellasentertainment.com

I once worked at Gamefellas from '96 to '98. It was a great place to buy, sell, trade...though I admit a tad pricey on new games at the time. Last time I was in Austin there was one location left and they appeared to be limping along. Now, it would appear they have 2 more locations. Good to see them back in the game.

You can always check out flea markets when you are in the area or maybe scan through a paper for some garage sales. Never know what you'll find at them.

However, I should point out that the best out of all of those stores to go to is the Game Over at Lamar and 183. This is the largest and have a small game console museum in the back.

Well, I'm back and the only store I was able to get to was the Game Over on Brodie and 290 and I have to say it was a fairly impressive store with a very nice selection of classic games, systems, and accessories. Quite a fun store to look around in, but I knew I wasn't buying anything pretty much from the moment I walked in and saw $50 Atari 2600 games in the case. I like stores that I can go in, look around, dig through bins, search for bargains, and this was NOT that type of store. It's a highly researched, overpriced store, reminding me of comic stores in the 90's that marked their comics at 2x 'high guide' prices.

Anyway, fun to go to with great games to flip through, but zero spent....

Yeah, both Game Over and Gamefellas tend to overprice commons. Better to hit places like Half Price Books.

Yes, Half-Price has been a decent source (hit and miss) over the years. If you find something there that is pricey online that isn't price marked it could work in your favor to not inquire about price until you are checking out if at all. I've had clerks just make a price up, especially if there is a line. Usually on the lower end this way. If you ask the key holder, they look to eBay completed listings...
