EDIT: Next Question:
I posted it, sorry, I wasn;t thinking that I should put it up here instead. Basically, once out of every 10-15 times I can get my st-v to load, but it will stay up for 5 minutes tops with no sound, then it goes and displays what looks like small green squares, but it could be lines and my eyes suck. Hitting the test or service buttons does nothing.

EDIT: Next question(answered):
I got my cab open, and on Tekken 2, there is an extra plug that is not with jamma, and it looks like it goes to the 2nd player buttons. I thought that jamma already handled that.

(answered)
So does this mean I should do some rewiring to get the 2nd player onto jamma since my st-v board doesn;t have this extra 2nd player plug?

Ok, So i got a cabinet last night, and would much rather play my sega st-v than tekken 2. The problem is that I do not see where I can open the cabinet at.

(answered)
Where, normally do I unscrew so that I can get into the cabinet. I found one slot, but it is near the top on the back and I only have access to the monitor.

I found another place on the back for screws, and after unsrewing that, it ended up being for the power source.

(answered)
Where, normally, on cabinets can I unscrew so that I can get into this cabinet to switch out the boards?

I got my first cabinet not to long ago and to access the board, I had to stick my hand up through the coin door and unlatch the control panel. It then opened forward and the board was accessible.

I'm not sure about yours but you can check if you have a similar setup.

Generally you unlock the back door to get at the boards; if the previous owner(s) broke the lock they might have added some screws to keep the back door in place. Some cabinets have front board access, some have two back doors, etc. If you can post pics of the cab we can point you in the right direction.

Well with this cabinet, I checked it out, and the back is not flat. from what I have seen from other cabs, you normally just take a back panel off, but I don't have that.

I did not know about the latch on the control panel, but I am guessing mine might be like that since there is a hitch on in front bottom of my control panel.

I will try that, and if I still have trouble, I will take pics to get a hand (I wanted to wait to get pics up until I converted this to Steep Slope Sliders).

Also, with Jamma, when I swap boards, is there anything special that I need to do. This is a 4 button (yes, I know, it will be a fun project when I convert to 6 button, which I plan on doing eventually), but I did not know if there was anything special.

I know that when I play games in mame, I can hit a service button, is there a place where the service buttons are on the control panel or coin door, or is it in the board itself?

EDIT: found out how to open it. It was 3 latches under the cp

Next Question:
I am trying to swap out the tekken 2 board for my st-v board, but when I do that, I get little green squares on my screen.

If i power it down and then power it back up, every 10-15 times, the game will load for 3-5 minutes or so, and then go right back to the green squares.

Why would this happen?

This is noob status, I thought that jamma was just a swap the board on the harness type of deal

What game is plugged into the ST-V? Do you have any others to try out? What are the jumper settings on your ST-V board? JP1, 5 and 6 should span 1&2, JP2-4 should span 2&3.

JAMMA is plug and play... but some JAMMA boards are "JAMMA+" meaning, you have to plug the PCB into the JAMMA harness, and then depending on the cab, game, etc., you might have to hook up some other things too.

The game I have mainly been trying is Die Hard arcade, but I also have steep slope sliders which I have tried as well.

I have steep slope sliders and die hard arcade. i did not try as many times with steep slope sliders, but was getting the same results.

One side question: the led right next to the battery comes up when the power is on, it is a red led. i am assuming that means it has battery power?

Also, I didn't even know there were jumper settings. I was trying to use a bios with region unlocking as well as the us one.

Right from boot it goes to the squares, so if it is something I do with going to the service mode, I can;t do that :(

This board came with a service manual, and I am seeing, according to this, that all that I am seeing for hooking up the board is to plug it into the jamma harness

EDIT: I read online that I can;t put the cart in all the way. I need to plug it in, make sure it clips in, and then make sure it is back as much as it can go while staying securely clipped. I am going to try that super quick.

Probably need more details/pics on your end as to the board, the screen, etc., and/or someone who's better versed in ST-V than I am. Is it an official Sega board, or a knockoff? I suspect that the red LED simply means that power is getting to the PCB.

The intermittent screen coming up could be indicating that there's simply a bad connection somewhere between the cart/board and the screen. Have you tried reseating everything?

For now though, especially if you're unsure about what you're doing, maybe just put Tekken2 back in there and play that.

Yeah, I am going to end up putting Tekken back in. Tekken sucks, so I am going to keep it in until I get some more answers.

Ok, I will try to be as clear as possible for details (I kinda suck at that).

It is not green squares, it is dots. They look green until I let the monitor power up, and then they turn into white dots. The dots are not blinking, they are just there. They are not scattered, but they do fill up the screen.

I have a US official board (it has Sega inked right into the board).

The only things to reseat are the cart, jamma harness, bios, and some super small board that came included that needs to be plugged in as well. I have tried reseating all of them. I have tried both carts as well as both bios chips (the us one that came with it, and the region free bios i bought online).

Somebody else said that it could possibly be a power issue or a capacitor not holding its charge or something, but I know little to nothing about that.

EDIT: Well, after talking to j rok himself, he told me to check the voltage. How do I do that on a pcb board?
