I saw some cheap arcade prices at the San Jose SuperAuctions that was held next to CaExtreme back in Summer 07. Between Mame cabinets, limited floorspace, slow economy, and significant others, an arcade cab collection seems a hard minefield to navigate.

Dude, those prices were insane. I bought a Tekken 2 jamma cab for 300, and I thought that was a deal.

Amazing, simply amazing. Do you happen to know what the Fax went for? That's only the second one I've ever seen. The other was at the long forgotten Santa Clara Bullwinkle's location on freeplay by the front door, basically to occupy people while they waited for others in line. Never thought I'd see another again.

Still, if you have the space NOW is the time to buy. It's crazy how low prices have been recently and you have your pick of choice machines. For the price of a modern console you can have an entire game room.

Wish a SuperAuctions would happen down here again, I missed the one next to CAX in 2007.

I can vouch for that since I got a jamma cab in very good working condition for 300, which is the price of a 360

Damn....and I'm moving to San Fran in a few months to start a PhD program (my Masters just wasn't enough for me).....hopefully there will be an auction I can catch out there once I move.

This is what I'm doing. I've been downsizing my console collection and using that money to buy a few machines that I enjoy. I had too many games and not enough time for them.

Although the auction results at Compton were a little surprising, there has generally been a trend down in arcade prices in the last few years. The fact that there are few if any arcades left in most areas means that supply is up as old operators liquidate and demand is down as most buyers are now home collectors. Of course, the economy has probably squeezed a lot of collector's too and foreclosures mean that some may not even have homes with space to store arcade games anymore. From my perspective, I only collect really high quality arcade stuff and specific stuff that I want since I don't have unlimited space or the time to do a lot of restoration. For a collector like me, Ebay or KLOV is a better buying option since the chances of me finding what I want in the condition I want at an auction is very low.
