View Full Version : Warioware Inc: Greatest game ever. No hyperbole, no BS!

Seriously, this is the greatest, most addictive game I've ever played. I got it last week (Fred Meyer's jumped the gun on the release date... it wasn't even in their system), and I've barely been able to put it down. The graphics are terrible. The hook is stupid. And it's still the best game ever. It's the ultimate twitch-inducing game. At first the game tricks you into thinking it's easy. But then you become a man (or woman) on a mission: To beat your high scores. Seriously... this is like the first game in over ten years that makes you strive to break your high score.

It's all about the three second microgames. And when the game starts throwing them at you ultra-fast, things get intense. No time to think. No time rest. God what a great game. Simply an awesome instant classic.

I agree. This game should be required buying for every member on this board. :)

It's retrogaming at its best. When you throw in the 20 or so classic NES microgames, it's just too much goodness for me to stand.

It's the best game released this year IMHO.

I've heard nothing but good things about this game.

It shall be one of my next purchases. :)

And the funny thing is, this game has NOTHING going for it! The graphics are terrible... some of the music is ear-bleeding horrible (especially the level where it has the japanese song going... yikes), and truth be told most of the microgames are the exact same game with a different coat of paint. IT STILL DOESN'T MATTER! This is legal crack.

Again, the best part is trying to beat your high scores. That's just so awesome that a game in 2003 can make you apperciate something as decidedly old school and old fasioned as high scores.

Another cool thing about the game is that it's incredibly old school, but it doesn't try to be. It just is. Stuff from companies like Treasure... good games come from them, but the old school 'hook' for lack of a better term comes across as forced. In Treasure's case, it's like they are only trying to appeal to their hardcore fans. Well the video game industry, like any other entertainment industry, isn't about catering to fans you already have... it's about making new ones. And that's what is great about Warioware Inc... Nintendo making and old fasioned hardcore twitchy game despite that being against what their 'core' audience favors. That's just cool. I mean, the only game I can think of that is as twitchy as this game is Robotron 2084, and that's from a totally different era of gaming and a totally different genre. Nobody... not Sega, Sony, or Microsoft... has put out a game this awesome. Ever.

Three cheers for Nintendo... Warioware Inc is simply the best game since... well... Robotron 2084. It's $30 people... anyone here who has a Gameboy Advance (or if you plan on buying a GB Player)... get this game NOW. Because I can't think of one person on this board who would not find gaming nirvana in this.

While a fellow WarioWare aficionado, I completely disagree about the graphics and sound being bad. In fact, they're among the best on the system IMO. Some microgames have simplistic graphics, but it's a stylistic choice. The implementation of those styles is superb.

Yep.. I've been espousing the virtues about Wario Ware here on these forums since about March (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10173) (maybe 3 or more posts with nary a response) :P But yeah it's a great game and very UNIQUE.

It is short lived however, I've pretty much played it to the point where I simply can't play it anymore w/ everything unlocked.

One thing I noticed about the english version that I didn't really like.. is it TELLS you what to do before each game. x_x Half the fun of the jap version is it didn't give you any hints so you had to scramble to figure out what to do. But in the U.S. version, you already know that you're supposed to "avoid" the balls in the car scene, etc. Also, those words tend to block up the screen initially, and since the games are about 4-5 seconds, that's a lot of time. But aside from that, it's awesome.

100% recommended :D

One of the sister stores of the company I work for has wario ware hooked up on a GBA that nintendo installed there... I tend to go over to that store and play it for a while before going on to my own store! I'm going to get it myself when the cash flow isn't such an issue.

I agree with BenT on the graphics and sound. Especially the graphics. I think they are the best the system has to offer.

Superb game. You didn't think it could be good, but it is.

I suppose someone ought to rock the boat on this one...

I played this game about two weeks ago at a store display and just thought it was ridiculous. I agreed *entirely* that the classic gaming themes - especially the desire to beat your own score - are very rare these days and this game's got them going for it. In fact, the only reason that I played the game a few times over was to improve my score.

But really, I thought the whole concept was little obnoxious. I found the sound/music to be irritating and the whole 3-second-gameplay thing to be silly. Maybe I have some kind of superhuman attention span, but I would've much rather had to play each mini game for several minutes instead of 3 seconds. I'll admit that the difficulty certainly catches up after a while,.. the problem is that I couldn't stomach the game long enough to experience the entire challenge.

Is the concept creative? Absolutely. Does it make sense that so many people enjoy it? Sure. But is this game certainly for everybody? No way. I was annoyed, as was another gamer who tried playing after me. I didn't think it could be good, and it wasn't.

And now back to your regularly scheduled positive reviews ;)

Great game, absolutely insane, but it's all over to soon. 200 games sounds like alot, but it's really not when their only 2-3 seconds each. Other than that, I loved it.

You mention that you played it a few times to "improve your score"? What game mode did you play? If you played the game as it was meant to be played, then you can't beat any score! Once you reach and defeat the Boss stages (usually about 15-20 games in), it moves on to the next one! What "score" were you trying to beat? LOL

You obviously missed the boat on this one playing it at the store display as it sounds to me that you were obviously playing the stages AFTER they've been beaten already (either via a single game, where you try to pass it multiple times to get a medal, OR an entire stage, where the goal is either to unlock more individual games)

You really have to sit down and play the game through with the story mode to "get it" imho. :) Get out of the store display :P When you play the game from start through finish and get through all the Boss stages to finish the game (it doesn't take long at all), THEN give your review ;)

When I say score, I mean mini-games completed, or whatever the technical term in irritating game land is :P Basically, when I was finished, it gave a count of how many mini games were passed. So, by trying to beat my own score, I mean completing more games than I did the last time. Clear enough?

That could very well be the case,..

Maybe, though I fail to see *how* different it's going to be. If, in story mode, you continue to play 3 second blips of these mini-games, then I doubt I'm going to be satisfied. It's really just not my thing. For example, I recall one game in which two large spheres rolled around this room and the goal was to move around without getting rolled over. Regardless of how fast the spheres may be rolling, I'd rather have to dodge them for five minutes than twitch away for a few seconds.

I really wasn't trying to give a detailed review, just my impressions. As I said, you're very entitled to enjoy this game, and I can see why it would be enjoyable. On the flip side, I'm entitled to think it's lame. :P I'll willingly give it another chance if it's ever put in front of me, but I'm not going to spend money on it.

ok. Fair enough :) One last thing I wanted to add is if you play an individual game (like the rolling spheres), then you play it over and over again where it gets faster and harder (with more elements and the occasional twist added to the game). So in a sense, you can get 5 minutes of that particular gameplay... albeit in manic 5 second bites seperated by 2 second intervals..:P

...maybe you should consider getting a flashcart? :D

Yes.

Metroid's...heh, that would be a spoiler.

Chop the bamboo? Looks excellent.

Catch the toast?

Really, what with the variety, speed, and fun of it all, it's a quite amazing achievement.

I have yet to see it in action, but I'm assuming there's some good sprite rotation and so on in there as well.

My wife normally has no desire to play video games, although she puts up with my obsession. This weekend at the lake she saw my gameboy and asked what games I had brought. I showed her WW Inc out of a hunch that she might like it. 3 days and 3 sets of batteries later she had hardly put the system down. Any game that can grab a non-gaming female like that is OK in my book.

What is everyone here's high scores? Here are mine... don't laugh, some of them are pathetic.

Introduction: 62
Jimmy: 42
Dribble: 48
Mona: 34
9-Vole: 61
Jimmy (Remix 1): 32
Orbulon: 44
Dr. Crygor: 41
Kat: 44
Jimmy (Remix 2): 28
Easy: 18 (only played it once, and I didn't care for it)
Thrilling: 16 (again, not fast enough)
Hard: 42 (my personal favorite way to play)
Total Boss: Haven't done it yet. I didn't care for most of the boss battles.
Wario: 66

And I just now finally got the last game I needed. Now I have to beat the indivdual games so that I can unlock one last thing.

They include a downloadable version on the GC preview disk, I saw the screens and did not try it. I guess I will have to get the gba out and download it.

I just got this on Friday, I'm having a ridiculously fun time playing it!

I've beaten story mode...working my way through the levels again trying to beat my scores!

Here are my scores so far...

Intro : 33
Jimmy : 40
Dribble : 51
Mona : 15
9-Volt : 34 - I haven't played much past this point since beating the story mode...
Jimmy Remix 1 : 20
Orbulon : 15
Dr. Crygor : 15
Kat : 25
Jimmy Remix 2 : 20
Wario : 25
Easy : 85 (I just kept waiting for it to get harder, it didn't...finally, a game I didn't know how to beat took me down a few times)
Thrilling : 17 (my only time over 3...)
Hard : 17
Total Boss : 13 (I agree that most of these aren't much fun...)

What are all the minigames you can unlock?? I think I'm missing a couple.

I'm not surprised. I've been playing this since March and am still missing some minigames. But then again my playing of it has sort of lessened.

You have to unlock all the minigames to unlock "Pyoro". Then to get "Pyoro 2" you have to get a medal in all the minigames. Ay chihuaha! x_x

I played the downloadable version on the demo disc, and I loved it. However, I hestitate to spend money on such a time waster. We'll see.

I've almost gotten all the medals... not quite there yet... I have about 30 to go. I must admit, playing all the minigames by themselves has been quite boring... they should have left that part out. And the mini-games thus far have been pretty lame.

But the main part of the game is still pretty much the best handheld game I've ever played... it's everything a handheld game should be. Quick, easy, pick it up, play for a couple minutes or a few hours. It rocks.

Guess I haven't gotten that far yet...sounds like I have a long way to go (meaning I didn't even know about the medals bit...) guess I glossed over that part of the instructions the first time.

Finished it last night. I still have a few more things to unlock, but the main game is finished. Awsome to the end.
