I don't recall the model 1 coming in plastic like this...

Did later shipments use that instead of Styrofoam?

Yeah, they were still in styrofoam when they switched to the Sonic version.

I suspect this is some kind of repacked item. I see the instruction book for Batman Forever which was a pack-in late in the Genesis V1 life cycle and I don't see the copy of Sonic that is supposed to be packed in, nor the manual for it. Also, that extended warranty sticker is not something I remember on any new Sonic or Altered Beast system bundle I have ever seen.

I think that may be just a poster advertising Batman Returns, it's more squarish than a Genesis manual should be.

You're probably right. I think my Batman Returns manual is black. In any event, I don't see the pack-in game or manual for Sonic, and the bar code looks like it has been cut from the bottom of the box and it has a Kay Bee tag on it, so the chances of it being repack seem pretty good.
