Yeah, I played this. I used to play as the character who has a sword (actually, I think its an owl) and a spread shot. Used to try and sit in my "attack position", half way up the screen, as close to as many enemies as possible using my sword and then occasionally retreat to my "defense position" down the bottom dodging bullets where the spread shot could take out people. Good fun, some crazy bosses and lots and lots of bullets.
I may pick it out again actually now.

The dub/translation in Castle Shikigami 2 (PS2 U/C) is classic and at times both confusing and hilarious. It's a very cheap (on PS2) find for an otherwise near perfect port of a decent vertical shooter. Personally, I think the series got better as it went along and Castle Shikigami 3 on Wii/360 is the better game but CS2 is a good introduction and if you enjoy shooters, it's hard to go wrong here.

Played it and loved it just like almost any shooter, pretty hard at times but thats whats great about it.

Loved the second game. Picked up the LE on Dreamcast and the US PS2 release. The US localization is absolutely classic in every possible way, from the way-too-literal translation to the what-the-fuck dubbing and the oh-shit-we-forgot-to-dub-those-lines-in-english moments. It's one of my favorite localization jobs ever and for pretty much the exact opposite reasons that I normally like a localization. It's just so bad, it wraps around and becomes awesome again.

Didn't much care for the first game too much and I haven't spent any time with the third.

This game has become a perennial favorite at my friend's lan parties. I know that one of my friends bought it after hearing the Engrish. The game itself is great, but hearing the absurd dialog is the main motivation to get to the next level.


Boss: "Oh no, it's stupid boy and annoying man!"
Character: "Ooops, sorry. I'm a girl!"
Boss: "Oh? Then I feel like an idiot."
Character: "That's ok! I'm an idiot too!"
