It pains me to do this, but I'm in need of cash, so I'm selling off my Turboduo system. This system was purchased new from videogamedepot.com in the late 90s, and only played a couple times. There is one issue with it, though: the CD drive doesn't seem to respond to discs being placed in it, so it never spins them. It thinks there's no disc inside. This is new old stock that videogamedepot.com acquired in a lot of other systems, and it was still sealed when I received it. I didn't return it because Thomas Keller over there didn't have any more systems by the time I received it, and at the time, finding a boxed Turboduo was impossible.

The drive not responding could be as simple as a disconnected cable inside, but I have no idea. I intended to have someone repair it for me, but never got around to it. I thought about opening it myself to check, but I don't have the proper bit to unscrew the casing.

The rest of the system works fine, and I played a couple Hucards on it to test it out. There are a couple light scuffs on it. The box has some moderate wear on all of the corners, but there are no rips, stains, or missing pieces on it, nor are there any major dents. The RF adaptor and controller are not pictured, as I still need to dig them out of my bin of controllers and such, but they WILL BE INCLUDED.

This system is as complete as you can find without it being new -- it still has all the plastic bags, foam, packing materials, docs, twist ties and so on. Even the original dealer's serial number form from NEC is still attached to the side of the box (I assume this was removed and held by dealers for record of sale).

I'm asking $190 for it, plus $15 shipping. If nobody bites, I'm willing to take the best offer sent to me the next couple days. Payment via Money Order or Paypal. Message me here if you're interested.

So it doesn't play cds at all or just sometimes?

I figured. I've had six different people pm me to buy the packaging separately, some lowballing me as low as 20 bucks.

How about we split the difference more or less and say 170 shipped, sc?

Dead laser. Should be easy fix.

That's what I thought. I could be wrong, but didn't Turbo Zone Direct used to offer to fix Turboduo systems for a flat $35 or something? I figured someone here that knows how to fix systems would be interested in it.

I'll still offer $100 to whoever buys this and finds out that a new laser doesn't fix it ;)

That's not cool. I don't appreciate you trying to discourage people that might be interested in buying it. If nobody else ends up buying it, I won't be selling it to you.

Hey, if anything it would help your sale by providing a method of recovering funds should someone wind up in over their head. There have been many threads on many different forums on duo repair. So, by now, anybody willing to buy a broken one should already know what they're getting in to. I'm flattered that you think my post could be so influential ;)

So he's been sitting on a broken system for about a decade that he was only able to use a few times and the fix only costs about $30? Interesting...

It's moot now, of course, but indeed, I'd be much more willing to take a risk on it if I knew I could still unload it to you if I couldn't fix it. Don't know why he's upset about that...

I was upset by him stating that it wasn't a CD laser problem that was the issue with the system, despite him not actually knowing.

It simply wasn't a priority, and it got packed away until I started digging up stuff to sell. It's actually not that interesting.
