I was playing through Sonic CD. I made it to Stardust Speedway III (the level in which you need to race mecha sonic and are being chased by Eggman). I died and got a game over. I find the Stardust Speedway levels incredibly confusing and frustrating, so I thought... screw that. I don't mind doing the boss level again, but I really don't want to redo the first two.

So, I found a level select on gamefaqs and warped directly to the boss battle. It took me two tries but I beat it. "Great", I thought, "now it's time to take on the final level". But nope, instead it shot me back to the title screen. At that time I thought the level select must operate similar to time attack and it just basically allowed you to practice the levels.

Here is my problem, when I selected "Continue", the game put me back at Collision Chaos III, which is only the second level of the game! what happened? My save file had been saved at Stardust Speedway I, but since using the level select code it keeps putting me at Collision Chaos III. The weird thing is that Collision Chaos III is the first time you have to deal with Mecha Sonic (in which he kidnaps Amy).

Is this a glitch? Or, is this the game punishing me? Is it forcing me back to deal with Mecha Sonic since I used a level select to get to his level?

I don't know if this matters, but I'm playing the pack-in version of Sonic CD (the one in the small paper case) and not the retail release. I'm playing it on a CDX.

CHEATERS NEVER PROSPHER!

I recall the save file in that game being pretty fickle if you tried doing anythign else, i've never cheated though so I dunno ,but you probably just have to play through it all again ;-)

you lie like a fucking dog >:P cheaters ALWAYS prosper. well, maybe not >.> some games have anti-cheat protections X.x pokemon yellow would nuke your save data if it detected a gameshark with the code switch on while loading your save. it would say something like "the data has been destroyed!"

the pokemon gameboy games were pretty anal when it came to glitches, cheats and hacks. Screw around with Missingo too much and kiss your save goodbye. *DataNuke*

Sounds like the level count wrapped around like rolling a score counter. Perhaps if you warp ahead again a certain amount of levels and then beat the level and save, it will bring you back to the one you want when you reload the save? I dunno.

I just played through the game again and beat Mecha Sonic without using a level select. Man oh man I hate that Mecha Sonic race. I figured out the best thing to do is not race him at all. Just stay right behind him the whole time (let him take out all of the spikes) and just try to race past him at the very end. I went on to beat the remaining level and ridiculously easy last boss.

By the way, how on Earth do you get the free man in Stardust Speedway 3? When you start, directly above you on a ledge is a free man and sneakers. For the life of me I can't find out how to get them.
