There's a thread over on the DC Emu forums (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=192408) about a Dreamcast SD card adaptor. It connects via the rear serial/link port. This could be quite interesting for homebrew.

Neat. It'd be neat if they could mod the BIOS to load games and whatnot.

i doubt that'd work well. i heard the DC serial port is kinda slow

This is exciting for several reasons. If this could rip games, it would make backing stuff up much simpler, the serial cable is a pain to use. If it can't do that, it will at the very least make the DC and even more awesome emulation machine, as you'd be able to easily change out your roms / save files. Very cool possibilities.

It's too bad they didn't plug it into something faster.

Just as I typed that, I couldn't think of anywhere else they could have plugged it into, so I'll just shut up :)

I imagine the controller ports offer at least the same data throughput as the serial port, and the modem port is easily the fastest port on the system.

Or the ethernet port if you've the BB Adapter.

The transfer rate of the SD card via the serial port is about 500 KBytes/s. This is about equivalent(ish) to a 4x CD ROM drive (600 kB/s). I'm sure this is perfectly fine for emulation and homebrew.

Some guys on that thread are saying you can indeed run GD-ROM images of that. Is it true? Dreamcasts don't last forever, and the discs sure as HELL don't. I'd love to be able to play my games via another input method. Anyone have the scoop on this?
