What is the best Crash Bandicoot game?

I searched through this gigantic message board and couldn't come up with any place where this has been asked anytime recently. So, I pose this question now.

Which is the best Crash Bandicoot game ever made?

Personally, I like Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back the best. It's probably the shortest of the games (on home consoles), but the one I find the most enjoyable. I think it also has the best music in the series.

Crash Bandicoot 1 is good, but more difficult than 2. The Perfect formula is tougher for getting gems and some of those levels are pretty long for having to get through the whole thing without dying (Sunset Vista)

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped is definitely a good game, and probably the zenith of the series. Wasn't really a fan of the flying levels.

Crash Bandicoot 4: The Wrath of Cortex was designed to capitalize on the previous games, but added some other stuff. Cortex's previous minions (Tiny, Dingodile, Dr. N. Tropy) were reduced to slightly higher than regular enemies, and a new character, Crunch Bandicoot was created to replace them. I think the game's ok, but I don't like the load times (infamous for their god-awfulness), and the mech levels. Probably too many levels with vehicles in them (something like 10 or 11, I know). It's also significantly harder than the previous two Naughty Dog games.

As for Twinsanity and Crash of the Titans, I haven't gotten the chance to play them, so I have no opinion of them, but I know that the series seems to have lost its way.

Thoughts, anyone?

I played Crash 1 in Toys R Us way back when it first came out and they had it on demo there, and it has been my favorite ever since. I don't care too much for the later games, but the first few aren't bad...kind of like the Spyro games, the first three were awesome then after that they just got awful.

I always thought 3 was the best, and I love the first two. CB 3 was the first full 3-D game I ever played (I was 5 1/2 or 6), and it is one of my favorite games ever. Twinsanity wasn't bad, but not close to as good as the previous games in the series. I haven't played the rest so I don't have an opinion on those.

My favorite was the 3rd one, but then again, it's the only one I actually owned. I played a lot of 2, but 3 introduced a lot of new stuff.

I remember the motorcycle levels. Those were sweet.

I like the first 3 the best. They all hold fond memories, but the 2nd one I actually owned myself, since it was a pack in game for the PS I bough way back when I was a wee lass. The only one I finished as well. So maybe it's the 2nd one for me.

Another vote for 3 here. I recently downloaded it off PSN just for old time's sake and found myself re-addicted to it. Way back, ten years ago, I actually had the patience to complete it 105%- though I did need autofire to get the scuba section's relics.

My ranking would be 3, 1, 2, 4 in that order. Didn't really play any of the later ones.

Its my favorite Crash game.

We bought a PS1 around '97 IIRC and my wife loved the old PS1 crash games. She was really good at platformers and she really liked the first 2 PS1 crash games.

I loved Crash Bandicoot 2. The first was a good start (Though I hated the save system), and the 3rd is good, though I hate the airplane stages (The jet-ski stages, however, where awesome). I've yet to play the 4th

CTR Racing WAS better than Mario Kart 64. Heck, to this day, I prefer playing a round of Crash Bash than Mario Party.

But excluding spinoffs, Warped was my favorite.

Crash and Spyro both sucked past the PS1.

I never like any Crash games. Before this thread I wasn't aware there was a "best". Maybe its because he looked so damn goofy or something. That, and I'm not a big platformer kinda guy.

Seconded(actually fourthed). Back when my niece got a PS1 because she enjoyed playing mine she got the Spyro and Crash type games. I use to have to play the time trial levels of Crash Team Racing for her because they were too hard for her to complete. But I got completely addicted to it and to this day it's one of my favorite racing and PS1 games. I even bought the Japanese import version to have a reason to play thru the whole game again.

I also think it's way better than Mario Kart 64 but to be fair, I played CTR first, where for most people it's usually the other way around.

This is one of my Top 5 video game series.
I personally like Crash Bandicoot 2. I say is more challenging, adcanced,etc.
I believe I own all of them, except the PS2 ones.

Does anyone else find the first two Crash games expensive now? Every time I check eBay it seems they are passing the 30 - 40 dollar mark.

I've often felt that the Crash Bandicoot games were a "guilty pleasure" of mine because they SEEM to be kid's games but I played that first one, got hooked and have been on that same fishing line ever since.

Crash 2 was my favorite.

Crash 2 fixed a lot of "clunkiness" of the first game most importantly, but added the ability to SAVE more often (a really annoying issue of the first game). I LOVED Crash Team Racing, too... indeed, as others have mentioned it was really more fun than any of the Mario Kart games up to that point. It had better mechanics if not the more recognizable "names". I also really enjoyed Crash 3 on PS1. I enjoyed pretty much ALL of these games, really. The first 360 offering "Crash of the Titans" was a whole lot of fun, too. Felt very old-school, which is always a good thing.
