View Full Version : Irrational Feelings Toward Classic Titles

In another thread, I commented that I dislike Qix for Gameboy, despite it being an okay title. This is because I always found it in stores, garage sales, thrifts and so on, when I'd look for Gameboy titles. Seeing it over and over again became frustrating and I grew to dislike it.
So, do any of you folks have a classic game you irrationally dislike? It could be the favorite game of an ex that you now associate with them, or that mundane title you managed to accrue $40 in video store late fees for because it got lost inside your couch as a kid.
And in contrast, what is a title you have an irrational affinity for? A title that might be rather lame or just unremarkable, but you associate with a positive experience or really appreciate some trivial part of.

I have a passionate hatred for the anime Sonic Soldier Borgman. I've never seen it, I never will see it, but I still hate it.
Gamewise... dunno.

Any sports game. The unwanted things clog used store shelves. Maybe if companies coudl release timeless sports games instead of forcing peopel to want the newest game with the current NFL roster, these abominations wouldn't waste oil to be made, because people want them for about 2 months.
People still want copies of Tecmo Bowl but they don't want the game from 2 years before.

Since I don't have much in the way of nostalgia, so I feel a lot of my feelings about titles are pretty rational. I really don't like a lot of old games, many were flash or unbalanced.
The one series I feel my thoughts towards are somewhat irrational is the MegaMan series. I just haven't ever been interested in playing it much. I don't hate it though.
I do have something of an irrational love for old computers.

I stay far far away from Wrestling games. After collecting a complete N64 collection, I cant get myself to have any love for them.
I am a sucker for Lord of the Rings games and Star Wars games. Even if they suck, I find myself wanting to buy them.

I used to hate Sega games (that's all my best friend played) because he was using a really crappy TV with the red turned waaaay too high. I thought all Genesis games looked like shit until I saw them a newer TV.

irrationally dislike - Ghost Pilots (NEO GEO) - Thanks to the contestants of Nick Arcade that always picked this, when there were better titles to play.
irrationally like - Time Lord (NES) - I know the game sucks, but I just love it.

I hate Mario. Yup.
Best thing about the series was the music. Never liked the characters or "storylines" and the gameplay always aggrevated me. Top it off with nintendo shovelware with Mario added just a selling feature, and I fear for the future of the gaming industry.
Funny thing is, I *do* actually like Mario 2 for NES....and I found out some years later that it was never really a "Mario" game. LOL

Actually, thinking about it more, I dislike alot of the "popular/good" franchises:
Final Fantasy -and other turn-based RPG's....I fall asleep :(
Metal Gear (didn't mind 2 so much...I liked Raiden)
Smash Bros - see my above "I hate Mario" post.
Gran Turismo - I like racing games actually, but this was consistantly dull
Zelda - Okay, I think this one's just lack of attention span and hate of backtracking. The worlds/gameplay/characters don't seem so bad. Just not my thing.
Grand Theft Auto - Just...not cool.
Any sort of "realistic" shooter. See Grand Theft Auto.
