Is the GBA Retro already?

A limted edition game for GBA (only 500 made) named Qwak is here for purchase:

Shame it's one of those "we only take Paypal" operations. I'd buy one if not for that restriction.

Absolutely not. One should wait 10 years after the release of its sucessor in order to consider it retro. 2014.

I'll sell my copy with a custom laminated label if anyone's interested in dealing with someone locally rather than over the pond. I kept the original label as well, on a sheet of wax paper.

Why'd you remove the label?

What is this game? Is it any good?

The original label was printed on cheap non-laminated stock with a low quality ink jet printer. No disrespect intended to the guy who made the game, but it looked exactly like a print-your-own envelope mailing label. The adhesive was so weak, the label peeled right off without any damage.

As for the game, it plays like your usual Euro-designed Amiga title, bouncy, fast and slippery. Has an addicting quality to it but I have too much crap and just want to pare down my collection.

I still don't understand why people go through all the time and effort to make games for older systems when it's so much easier to work with newer consoles. It's much easier to develop a game with GBA sensibilities and actually make it for the Xbox1. I guess it's just not my thing, more power to 'em for doing it though. There's obviously a market for it.

He found it fairly easy to port from Amiga to the GBA because I believe he's developed commercially for both platforms... and I have my copy, somewhere here, from quite a while ago :)

I'm guessing it's because it's too easy to do so, and not enough challenge.

It's easy (figuratively speaking) to make a 2600 like game and make it run on the Xbox than on the 2600 itself. I'm guessing because of limitations imposed on older consoles, even if it was meant for it.

I for one am happy that homebrew games are being released for older consoles. Gives them a new breath of life :)

I ordered mine as well, which should be recieved in around two weeks or so.

Thanks Tom! Maybe Dom may order his as well, but all depends on $$$...
