With the new PSX thread, it got me thinking. What are the great (or very good) PS2 games that aren't sequels to previous games? Until Ico came out I was bored with PS2 after the newness wore off, but it has it's share of good original stuff. I also highly enjoy SSX and Kingdom Hearts.

From the PS2 Favorites thread with some edits...
Dej Jam Vendetta
Devil May Cry
Frequency
Gitaroo Man
Ico
Jak and Daxter
Kingdom Hearts
Mad Maestro
Mark of the Kri
Metropolismania
Mr. Mosquito
NBA Street
Onimusha
Red Faction
Rez
Shadow of Destiny
Sky Odyssey
Sly Cooper
SSX
War of the Monsters
Zone of the Enders

Games waiting for second nomination
The Adventures of Cookie & Cream
ATV Off-Road Fury
Dark Cloud
Duel Hearts
Fantavision
The Getaway
Kessen
Okage Shadow King
Rachet and Clank
Ring of Red
Road Trip
Robotech: Battlecry
Robot Alchemical Drive
Shadow Hearts
Sims, The
State Of Emergency
Time Splitters

Anything to add, discuss? :)

Cheers,
Ben

Um, well, Amplitude is a sequal though. Frequency was the predessesor (sp?)

Oh, and throw Sly Cooper on the list. One of my top 5 for the system.

Let's see, right now I've been playing the hell out of Mad Maestro and Mr. Mosquito. Can't say I've seen anything like these two games around before...

Umm... you've got the best ones. Some that are on the borderline might be:

Red Faction
Rachet and Clank
Jak and Daxter
Medal of Honor
Dej Jam Vendetta
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (Sequel?)

I don't know what you plan on doing about the sports games either. They are pretty hard to tell if it is a sequel. I must also second the motion for War of the Monsters. It is a great game, and has a great retro feel to it. I only wish it were 4 player.

Imports are not included?

Personally I ended up hating Dark Cloud. Never bothered finishing it. It was just so *boring* after awhile.

My favourites (of the 'non-sequel variety) have definitely been Ico, SSX, and Jak & Daxter. Although J&D isn't nearly as *good* good as ther former two. I still consider Ico to be one of my top 10 favourites of all time.

War of the Monsters...glad to see it on the list! Very much slept on, and the only reason I power on my PS2 other than playing Symphony of the Night.

How about "State Of Emergency" ???

All that mindless violence makes for a real hoot LOL

Not that it needs it, but I'll second Kingdom Hearts. I don't care what anyone says, that's probably the best game I've played all year.

I'd second Dark Cloud, although Dark Cloud 2 is a far better game.

I'd add:

The Adventures of Cookie & Cream (yes, I think it's great -- hey, if you're including Mr. Mosquito, you can include this)
Jak & Daxter
Kessen (although II was better)
Sky Odyssey (debatable, but I think it's, like C&C, an all-time PS2 sleeper)
TimeSplitters (although II was much better)

Going over my list of PS2 faves, I realized just how many games in the library are sequels and updates. It's all about the franchises these days.

I'll second the Red Faction and Sky Odyssey nominations (I clicked in the first place to recommend Sky Odyssey).

Duel Hearts is an awesome action/RPG.

Sky Odyssey is indeed great. One of the other best games on PS2 is "Road Trip" Really, really, really fun, its the best game that nobody ever played!

I so want to play this game, but, like Gitaroo Man, I can't find the damn thing ANYWHERE.

Real pool was a very cool game to play and should get a sequal.

Hmmm... C&C is easy to find here in lovely Redding, California (Costco, FuncoLand, Software Etc). I didn't realize it was getting scarce. Definitely worth the trouble of finding it, though.
