View Full Version : Debug Modes & Unused Stuff Wiki Project
Hello, everyone!
The wiki in question. (http://debugunused.wikia.com)
This is one of my biggest projects to date. I've found all kinds of information over the years on these kinds of debug modes and unused things and what-not, but they've always been scattered all here and there on the internet. This has been my big attempt to actually do that.
It's lacking a lot in the looks department, but myself and FlyingOmelette have been working hard to put stuff up. Most of my content is stuff I've gotten permission from other people to put up.
If you got any juicy tidbits you want to add up or point out to me, that would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any comments and suggestions. =)

This is a great concept for a wiki, good work! I'm enjoying browsing it.

This a veritable bevy of cool information you've amassed Rick, I had no idea about half of these debug modes I see on here. The unused game data like the enemy in centipede is really cool too.

I -was- going to mention BMF's website. There's lots of cool info there, but yeah, he hasn't touched that part of the site in ages.
How can I add stuff to the page? I don't know if Wikia accounts work all over or what. :p I have some info from the games I've translated.
I think that if you have a Wikia account, it should work fine. I don't really know the logistics behind it any. It shouldn't be too hard to do editing stuff though once you can actually get to it.
It'll be cool to have more helping hands. Thank you. :D
As for BMF, I've tried getting in contact with him a few times, but with no dice. =/

I do have a complaint. I've noticed some things say "Source: X person" but there is no link available... when I KNOW there's a link. Like that c4h3ue guy or however his name is spelled.
You should add the links, dude.
I'll do that as one of my little projects once school lets out for the semester here. Thanks for the suggestion.

I know the various leftovers in most of the Lucasarts games are all thoroughly documented, though offhand I can't say what the best source for the info would be.

The last line of that Boy and his Blob limerick is in the game, it's something like:
"No problem," he said, "just doing my blob."
I found it ages ago...basically the limerick appears three or four times (growing in length each time) as their own "rooms" in the game. I managed to freeze the RAM value for your current room in an emulator and literally go through every hex value until I found it, but it's in there. Sorry I don't have something more specific than that, but maybe someone with more spare time than myself can use this info and find the complete limerick for you. Incidentally I've spoken to all three core members of the Boy and his Blob team, and none of them remember it.
Also: lots of hidden text, an unused song, and some unused sprites in Adventures in the Magic Kingdom. My favorite find in the ROM was something like "ADVENTURE IN MAGIC KINGDOM BY BAMBOO. SATURDAY IS MORNING SALAD," but there is some unused stuff that seems to have come from early design ideas and an unused Jungle Cruise level.

Are you positive that's legit? There's a "mock up" image like this that someone made based on his memory of getting the actual cart to glitch, and the wording is slightly off.

thats legit Red Eye you Can Check it out for yourself with the Game Genie Code NSUUKGAA
however you seem to skip the room if you exit it and try to go back to it
I can try it out for myself and put it in as an addendum update. My wiki is also about solving mysteries and correcting errors too. =)
TheRedEye, do you happen to have any way for me to see about the other unused things in the game that you discussed earlier? I'm very interested to see this for myself.

Perfect Dark and GoldenEye are fountains of unused, unreleased stuff. Check ou detstar for a bunch
Goldeneye has a ton though. Bungee Equipment, Money, Placeable Cameras, Gold, Gas Key Rings, the Dam Island, Ouromovs Briefcase, the Silo Elevator and unused spawn point.
--------- Unfortunately it looks like Detstar has gone offline.. That makes me sad. So much lost information.
Use this instead: http://web.archive.org/web/20071029204152/goldeneye.detstar.com/beta/betaversion.asp

TMK (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net) also has some stuff from the Mario games, like from SMW (http://themushroomkingdom.net/games/smw) and Mario & Luigi (http://themushroomkingdom.net/mlss_lost.shtml).
Was it Ladybug (arcade) that featured that mysterious dinosaur?

Adventures in the Magic Kingdom? You need to use a program that can read text, personally I used this one:
http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/romsearcher.html
There might be something better by now, it's literally been about eight years since I found that stuff. I'll look in the ROM again if I find time.

That reminds me, there are a few blurbs about ROM text in the old Colecovision FAQ (http://www.steverd.com/faqs/COLECFAQ.TXT):
Galaxian -
The following dedication is coded into the ROM for the cart:
DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE
I LOVE YOU JENEANE (sp?)
Squish'em featuring Sam -
The following dedication is coded into the ROM for the cart:
This space dedicated to all those hackers who program in 8K but
are given 16K and to all accountants who want 15K promos
And of course there's the infamous TetrisRant (http://www.bretz.ca/dave/tetrisrant.htm), from The New Tetris N64.

Ocarina of Time had that Starfox enemy that could only be accessed through a Gameshark, that's the first thing that came to mind. As far as debugs are concerned, the first one I ever used was the one on Jurassic Park for Genesis, but, as mentioned, Goldeneye had heaps of unused stuff. It also had an unfinished multiplayer level or something like that with loads of clipping issues.

Well I meant about A Boy and His Blob, but that's actually interesting too, I'll take a look at it when I get a moment.
Pardon my double-posting and slight bumping, but I didn't think that it would be approprite to make a new topic for this.
Anyhoo, while going through CaH4e3's page again, I caught wind of a Debug Menu he posted for Toxic Crusaders. He didn't talk much in depth of it, but I found it to actually be a very featured menu. Kind of interesting, actually. I've experimented with it and come out with a big write-up of it.
