Hello,

I just got a Model 1 Sega CD and I have a couple questions. Is there supposed to be some metal peice between the Genesis and the Sega CD? Also, what is the lock switch on the side for? is it supposed to lock the two systems together?

Yeah...I think there's a metal contact plate. I have one for the Model 2 Sega CD :) I'm fairly certain there's one for the model 1. And the lock switch does lock the systems together so you can't skillfully knock them apart during gameplay.

Yes, there is a metal plate, you need it to contuct eclectricity between the systems. The lock switch on the side is for the audio mixing cable that goes from the earphone jack on the fron of the Genesis to the rear of the CD, it allows the Genesis to output stereo sound, through the Cd's auido out. The lock switch clamps the cable down so it stays out of the way the the CD drawer.

Well, I have a power supply for my Sega CD now.... though I don't have the shield that goes between the Genesis and the Sega CD... I wonder how difficult it would be to locate one.

Ikari Warrior: You mean it's needed for a ground connection between the two units right?

I think it's just RF shielding.

You'd be better off getting a model 2 CD unit. They're less problematic, in general.

I'm saving up for a CDX.

I've decided to shove my questions in with this topic.

I just got a Sega Mega CD 2 today, and I've got a couple questions:

1. What is the 'Mixing' socket for?

2. I also got Road Avengers for it today. The game came in a double CD case (yes, they were sold here like that), and there are two of the same CD in the cover with two identical manuals. Can anyone explain this? Because I know Road Avengers wasn't a two disc game, and the discs are identical - which is confusing the hell out of me! Coz not all games were sold here in two disc cases - yet for some reason Sega saw fit to include two copies of the same game. Why?

You take the Stereo Audio output from the Genesis and link it to the mixing socket. Then you hook the audio output on the Sega CD to the TV or stereo system. The Mixing socket allows the Sega CD to mix the sound from the genesis with whatever sound the sound from the Sega CD...like voice clips and such.

Ahhh, so you could effectively listen to music CD's and play Mega Drive games simultaneously? Neat.

And Microsoft thought the Xbox was innovative - PAH!

Pity I don't have a Mega Drive AV cable.... :(
