View Full Version : Genesis Model 1 - Extra Resistors in Funny Places

When I took this Genesis Model 1 apart to clean it, I noticed two resistors that seemed a bit out of place. One is on a pin of the processor, and the other is underneath the board. I looked at some pictures of these areas on other units, but didn't see the resistors. Anybody know what these are?

Processor - It's under that solder blob, and it's rather small. It's hard to see it, but I think it was red, red, gold. I'm not up to snuff on resistor code.

Underside - This one's bigger

ECO: Engineering Change Order. They corrected a small mistake, without having to rebuilt the entire PCB as it's costly.

Yeah, for some reason, Sega hardware is full of ECOs. In the first Genesis there are about 5 or 6 very long jumpers and some resistors and capacitors that seem to be tacked off.

That's sure to be it. My sorta made up job title is Engineering Change Coordinator and I see things like this quite often. It's my job to make sure the schematics, parts database, build instructions, and correct parts get ordered when changes like these are made. If an engineer makes a circuit change before the next revision of the PC board is created, there will be all sorts of resistors and wires soldered to the bottom of the board. It's cheaper than letting the remaining boards go to waste.
