If you've worried about your youngsters being exposed to the evils of rock music, worry no longer: LEGO Rock Band is coming this holiday season on PS3, 360, Wii and DS to deliver us all from said evil. The game, currently being developed by TT Games and Harmonix, will use all the existing Rock Band/Guitar Hero peripherals.
The family-focused version of the game will allow you to customize your "minifigure avatars" along with your road crew and managers. The kid-friendly song list hasn't been fully disclosed, but we know it'll include:
* Blur: "Song 2"
* Carl Douglas: "Kung Fu Fighting"
* Europe: "The Final Countdown"
* Good Charlotte: "Boys and Girls"
* Pink: "So What"
So, LEGOs or Beatles, who's getting your Rock Band dollar this year?

This series is finished i think. They have expended most of their options with releases like Metallica, aerosmith, now beatles and legos. I think they are just trying to cash the franchise out.
That being said i think it might be fun for the younger crowd, legomanics, and GH fans. But me personally Im done with GH and Rockband series.

I wouldn't mind having Blur and Europe on regular Rock Band actually.

Surely, that can't be a serious question.

Will there be an extra easy mode for kids?

I like the Beatles. I do not LOVE the Beatles. Same with Legos. Both are good things, and they'll both sell well, but I don't see myself buying either.
To me, Rock Band/Guitar Hero are the same thing as DDR. They're going to keep doing releases with new music, and it'll be profitable for a while. I'm actually impressed that they're branching out into artist-focused games like they are.
Then again, I'm barely a casual rhythm game player. My musical background is more electronica/new wave, so I have trouble "getting into the groove." when I play.

Well, I doubt the wisdom of Lego Rock Band, but nothing the Beatles did would be that fun in GH/RB so the Legos get my money.

If they released a Nine Inch Nails edition of Guitar Hero, I would actually buy a current system to play it on.
Despite Trent's interest in video games and history of contributing soundtracks, I doubt this will ever happen.

Lego RB = GH: Aerosmith = DDR: Disney Mix
All 3 were considered missteps for their franchises. And no, I don't care that some DDR fanboy is willing to waste $100 on Disney Mix on eBay either, it sucks.
With that said, I still love GH & RB, and am looking forward to the Beatles release. DDR, on the other hand... haven't played one since Ultramix 2. :p

Yeah, how dare they give us a bunch of awesome new songs to play? Nothing says "played out" like continuing to provide quality content.
Lego RB = GH: Aerosmith = DDR: Disney Mix

Firsty, this Lego RB isn't even out yet, so it can't be considered a misstep at all. Secondly, how in the world can anyone say GH: Aerosmith was a misstep? Aerosmith is one of the most respected, well-loved bands in rock history. Now, obviously if you're not a fan of a particular band you're not going to like their dedicated GH/RB game, but there are simply too many Aerosmith fans out there to say GH: Aerosmith was a misstep.

What?
I don't know the songs that will be on the beatles, but they sure enough had a ton of fun songs that would be perfect for RB
Helter Skelter
I am The Walrus
Get Back
Strawberry Fields Forever
Penny Lane
Eleanor Rigby
Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
A Day In The Life
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
Rocky Raccoon
Come Together
Those are ones that are off the top of my head that I would think would be fun to play. Their older stuff is even more "rocky" and fun. It's gonna be a great addition.

eh, neither. looks like mostly top-40 shit on lego rb. if there are any decent songs there, odds are they'll be released on the store. as far as rock band beatles goes, i'm not crazy about the beatles*, but either myself or my gf's parents will be getting it for her since my gf's a beatles nut. just hope i don't have to play it.
*i think the beatles are a 'decent band', sometimes straying into 'good band' territory, but not the masters everyone makes them out to be. almost as overrated as led zeppelin (sabbath blows them both out of the water), but that's a discussion for another day. :ducks for cover:
If they released a Nine Inch Nails edition of Guitar Hero, I would actually buy a current system to play it on.you know there's nin dlc (http://www.rbdlc.com/search.php?string=nine+inch+nails)on rb, right? there's not much, but they're fun songs to play (esp 'the perfect drug' on drums).

Well, I doubt the wisdom of Lego Rock Band, but nothing the Beatles did would be that fun in GH/RB so the Legos get my money.
I could see how the Beatles wouldn't be as fun in GH, because they're not a riff-based band. But Rock Band seems made for the diverse catalog of the Beatles. Have you ever really listened to Sgt. Pepper's or the White Album all the way through? That and those albums are so musically removed from the early stuff, there's a wide range of music that can be mined from the Beatles large catalog. The tempo changes, odd vocals, extended choruses, variety of musical styles, are perfect for the collaborative nature of Rock band. However Good Charlotte and Pink, featured in the lego game are pretty much the standard for bland over-produced modern "punk/pop." And the Beatles are nowhere near my favorite band. Maybe in my top 25.
Now as far as the timing of the release, that's another story. I think the Beatles are a really good idea, but it should have been an earlier release. The Rock Band/ GH schtick is a fad that is getting pretty old. Lego Rock Band is just a thinly disguised version of regular rock band. The songs in the set-lists here are just songs that didn't make the cut the first 2 times around.

Expended most of their options? I can think of these potential selling options off the top of my head:
RB/GH: Classic Rock (I know we get some each game, but one of ALL classic rock)
RB/GH: Country (This would be HUGE)
RB/GH: Evolution of Punk (Come on, you could fit like 400 songs on this one lol)
Or more bands that may be able to pull off a spotlight game:
RB/GH: Green Day
RB/GH: The Doors
RB/GH: Queen
The cash cow options are far from exhausted. As long as people keep buying, companies will keep producing.

Personally, I'd rather be seeing lower priced "niche" titles focused on different genres, not just the few variations on rock music we have left. Here's a few ideas:
Rock Band: New Wave - Depeche Mode, A-Ha, New Order, Flock of Seagulls, Tears for Fears, etc
Guitar Hero: Alt-Rock - Toad the Wet Sprocket, REM, 90s "Adult Contemporary" stuff
Rock Band: Grunge - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc
I'd much prefer this kind of thing to the "cash cow" releases. It would work even better if they put out a final version of the game that received program updates (read: OS) with continual themed expansion disks (read: software). You could say that the online a la carte sales model does this, but compilations are a better value to the consumer.
Under that sales model, Lego Rock Band would be an expasion pack, not a full retail product.

Guitar Hero did Metallica and Aerosmith. Rock Band is doing the Beatles and Lego. Two separate franchises there hoss.

RB/GH: Classic Rock (I know we get some each game, but one of ALL classic rock)

I would buy either one of those on day one and thus far the only guitar game I own is GH: Aerosmith.

I wonder if they could work a rock opera into GH- imagine a Pink Floyd - The Wall edition, where you have to play the whole show to a click track, and player two gets to trigger the props and control the pig. And at the end of it you get to knock the wall down with your wiimote.

This could be a very good direction. If you're going to pay what they're asking for an entire album that you can only listen to in the game, then some new gameplay elements or functionality would really justify the purchase. Any concept album would work wonderfully, with Styx's "Kilroy Was Here" coming to mind as my first choice. There would be a "performance" mode where you play along with a machinima of the story, unlocking the Kilroy mask in your wardrobe after finishing it.
For those that know about the Coheed and Cambria mythology, I'd prefer something like this to the comics.

If they do a rock opera game I want Tommy. With pinball minigame.
I support the idea of genre-based discs. Seconded times a billion on a all punk version. Get some Bad Religion on there and I might actually sing a track or two.

20 points! I swear someone else asked a question where this was the answer, but damned if I can recall where it was... But as far as I know GP is PC only. If they EVER release that for consoles, somebody tell me! I won't want to pay the money, but it will be collectible as all hell (pun intended!)!

I am pretty tired of GH/RB. I enjoyed 1,2 and World Tour, but the rest of the games were pretty lame to me. What they need is Synthesisor Hero. Imagine all of the 70's, 80's and 90's Synth songs that you could play.

Yep, Rock Band definitely jumped the shark with this one. It's not that I'm not a fan of Lego series but there has got to be limits, man! Who knows...maybe it will truly rock? Of course I thought the Aerosmith edition would do well and look where it ended up (I think there were even a few people who disliked it more than their first bomb, Revolution X!).

My personal wish is for something to do with the modern synth scene (http://adifferentdrum.com/), but it's such a niche genre. Still, you could do a lot more with a synth controller than a guitar, like changing sound presets, on-the-fly portamento, etc.
Thing is, the added costs of a synth controller and the lack of mainstream appreciation for electronic music would hamper sales of anything like this.

Don't forget the washtub bass and Dobro in the 4-man full band set. :D
I love Legos but, damn... This is ludicrous. Beatles will more than likely be my first RB purchase. I only bought the first GH at full retail so that's actually saying quite a bit.
Only thing that can save it is an exploding Pete Townsend Lego facsimile. *BOOM* WHAT!?
I like the beatles, but I cant rock out to the beatles... let me give you an example...

Now that I think about it, couldn't you do more things with The Beatles than Lego? The only real variety with Lego is the different licensed properties they have now (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, now Batman...). With The Beatles, you could recreate things like Yellow Submarine, Sergeant Pepper's, and playing on Ed Sullivan. You also have their solo careers to draw from. With Legos, you just have yellow people that fall apart, with no cohesive theme or direction.

I bought Lego Rock Band this weekend (the price dropped to $20 new, and I found it for $15 used at Future Shop). I'm glad I didn't buy it full price when it first came out. My 360 is set to French and usually, games are decently or well translated. This is not the case with Lego RB, and it's quite distracting to find glaring mistakes that should not be made in the first place.
Another thing with the game is the slow loading times between the game's sections. It's much longer than it is with the other RB games, including Beatles Rock Band. And the song list isn't that interesting. All in all, an ok purchase for $20 max or a rental, but not worth paying big bucks.

Bought it earlier in the week, and hated it.
Song selection is junk, and you can only play "E" rated songs from Rock Band 1 and your downloads (and no rock band 2 songs).
Already sending it out on goozex.
Not even worth the download code, as you have to pay an ADDITIONAL $10 just to use it

I got it at a Movie Gallery closeout sale for $15 (It had the export code), sold it on Ebay for $11, and imported it for $10. There's enough songs on there to spend $14 on export. (Woo hoo song by Blur, Ruby by Kaiser Chiefs, Tick Tick Boom, FInal countdown, Kung Fu Fighting, Ghostbusters, etc.)

yes, it had ghostbusters, which is awesome, but isn't worth the risk of getting the other songs when I play on random :(

It's good, but something went wrong somewhere. For some reason, I made more errors playing with the guitar than with the regular entries in the series. It's not the batteries either.
Still, a fun game nevertheless.

I've had the opposite experience, it seems alot easier for me to get 100% on LRB than in other rhythm games. Even the imported songs from RB1 and DLC seem easier than when I'm playing them on RB2.
