It seems to me that a small app that contained all of the DP data (gamelists, rarities, etc) connected via a relational db would be hugely useful to everyone here. Then you could enter your games, get queries on what you have, what you need, what you need of rarity 5, rarity 3, etc... does one of these already exist someplace? Since all of the data does exist it wouldn't be too hard to create such an app.

I actually have such a tool running on my own personal web server... It's highly configured to my needs and is for inventory purposes of my NES collection..

If you know perl or PHP and have mySQL knowledge, setting something like that for yourself shouldn't be that difficult.. :D

Try this. It is what I use. sSome of the systems have a master list so all you have to do is pick the game from a list to input it.

Thanks guys... I actually am a perl developer, but the issue here is preexisting game catalog files. The dp lists are no good for this since they're PDF and I wouldn't want to enter thousands of games and information for each game into a sql engine. I checked out that Cart Commander app and it's actually pretty useful to me since I don't collect the newer systems anyway.

Glad I could help.

I've got a question. Cart commander looks good, but I won't have a PC where I'll be inventorying my collection. Does anybody have any experience with PDA based database or spreadsheet software? I've got a Palm IIIc, and If I could put everything into that, then transfer the database over to Excel, Access, or Cart Commander that would be awesome. I could also then take my collection with me, and check to see if I already have a copy of a game.

Any suggestions?

HandeBase (I think that is how it is spelled) is a good hand held database program. That is the program I use on my Handspring Visior. If you already have your games in a program that will let you save them as a CSV file you can import the data into Handebase.

Well that's the good news, I haven't started anything yet. I have Excel and Access, so whatever db software will import will work fine. I'll check out handebase, thanks for the tip!

Amazing piece of software there. Thanks for pointing it out, it will be a huge help in making an inventory of my gaming stuff.

For my NES games I have a database that I compiled from various rarity and price listings.

I have a sections for if I own it (a check box), the name, the company, check boxes for cart, manual, box, the special controller used (ex gun) then pricing for cart, manual, box, and finally extras that are included with the game (ex. maps) and the value of the extras.

I also have a section for hardware too.

I have queries made to find out what games I own, what games I need, what games I have for different controllers, such as ROB, gun, powerpad.

It might have taken me a while to make the database, but it comes in handy for keeping track of what I have exactly.
