Hey guys, last year I bought a green original Game Boy for 2 bucks at a yard sale. I looked on the web, but couldn't find any info on a green Game Boy, just GBC's. Does anybody know anything about it or how rare it is? Thanks for your help!

I know one of my friends had one. His was missing the screen cover and it was in pretty bad shape, but I definitely remember that distinct shade of green. Actually, I don't believe I've ever seen another one.

They are quite common, part of the Play it Loud! series IIRC.

Well, the one I found had some minor scratches on the screen, but it has the battery cover and it works perfectly. I will post a picture tonight, just have to dig out my camera.

Didn't the Play it Loud! ones have logos on them that said Play it Loud!? Mine doesn't have the logo.

I think I've heard of a Green original before.. They can't be that common, cause if I've actually seen one.. it's only been once. I'd like to see pics.

A green original gameboy is part of the Playitloud! gameboys. They were released in Green, Red, Black....etc lol. I can't remember all of them. I had one of the green ones...so badass XD

Was that response really necessary?

I've never seen a Play It Loud! Game Boy with such a logo.

Here's some information on the Play It Loud! line from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_line#Play_It_Loud.21):

In 1995 Nintendo released several Game Boy models with colored cases, advertising them in the "Play It Loud!" campaign. Specifications for this unit remain exactly the same as the original Game Boy, including the monochromatic screen. This new line of colored Game Boys would set a precedent for later Nintendo handhelds; the Game Boy Pocket, the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance (including the SP and Micro), Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite all feature different colored units. Play It Loud! units were manufactured in red, yellow, green, black, blue, white, and clear cases. The Play It Loud's screens also have a darker border than the normal Game Boy and a replacement is hard to come by.

I see them in the wild from time to time - the green, black, and clear units seem to be the most common.

Oh I see, thanks for the info! Its been bugging me for a while, and the mystery is finally solved. I swear I saw a Play It Loud Game Boy somewhere on the internet that had a logo that said Play It Loud, oh well.

Even if its not worth much, its still a nice collectors item. Now to find the other colors...

Could have been a sticker the person put on it.

There are also two completely unrelated threads on the first page of one of the Assembler forums asking about green Game Boys (one GBA, one SP). Must be something in the air.

I still have mine.

I suppose they were on the market for like a year and a half or so (I think early 1995 is when they launched, replaced by GB Pocket in late 1996). I have an article in Nintendo Power claiming about 1 million PIL GBs were sold by press time (August 1996 issue), though it doesn't give a breakdown by color.

I have a green one complete with the original clear plastic case and a loose black one. I remember posting on some web site asking about the black one back when I bought it.

I was actually wondering about this myself since I recently picked up a black gameboy in near mint condition(doesn't look like it's ever ben played) with a clear plastic case as well. I knew it was part of the play it loud line, I just wasn't sure if it was more collectable or worth anymore than a regular gameboy.

I have both the green and black GameBoys. They came in the hard plastic casing boxes.
