View Full Version : Test your memoy: Name a whole series

Think of some random game series, and see how many different games produced under that license you can think of, WITHOUT referring to any guide online or offline, your shelves, friends, anything--only use your own memory. Consider ports, compilation disks and even demos/rerelease packaging fair game if you feel particularly crazy today (as I do).

Then everybody else gets to pick apart your choices--i.e. was it really released for Sega CD, or you're missing that NGPC tie-in etc.

Let me start with an easy one:

I was thinking of Serious Sam for some reason, so here's all the games produced under the Sam license that I can think of (at this moment):

PC
Serious Sam
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter (hereafter simply SE)

PC Demos:
Serious Sam technology test
Serious Sam "normal" demo
SE technology test

XBOX:
SE

Windows CE PDAs:
Serious Sam

Yep, cheap. I picked a PC title so we could start off easy. I would have liked to pick something like Golden Axe, Shinobi, or Ghosts'n Goblins...but I've been reading about those recently, so no go.

Oh, and just a short line congratulating Raedon on his reaching 4K posts, in advance :)

I'll bite on the Mega Man one. Domestics only, no imports. There's plenty more of those that I'm unaware of.

NES: Mega Man 1-6

GB: Mega Man I-V

GBC: Mega Man Xtreme 1 & 2

GBA: Mega Man Battle Network 1 & 2, Mega Man Zero, Mega Man & Bass

SNES: Mega Man X, X2, & X3, Mega Man Soccer

PC: Mega Man 1 & 3

N64: Mega Man 64

PSX: Mega Man 8, Mega Man X4, X5, X6, Mega Man Legends 1 & 2

Saturn: Mega Man 8

Game Gear: Mega Man

Genesis: Mega Man: The Wily Wars

Not entirely sure that last one came out here, but I think I remember seeing it somewhere. Whew. My brain hurts now.

On the Mega Man list - the Saturn also hosted X4. ;)

Oh,.. and if you're including PC games, the X titles appeared there, too. At least up to X5 as far as I know.

Well, not to be picky, but I remember seeing a GBA SP + FF(tactics?) package for sale, one of those limited edition jobs. I'd say that's a pretty good list, I can never remember which FF came out where, especially with the ones not released here.

Okay, here's one (since I haven't looked at anything for Metroid in a while)

FDS
Metroid, 1986
(Unlike Zelda and Akumajo Dracula, there is no cart rerelease for Metroid)

NES
Metroid, 1987 release
Classic Series ("Yellow Label") 1993 release (that or 1991/1992?)
PAL box differences

Arcade:
PlayChoice-10 Metroid, 1986 (?)

GameBoy:
Metroid 2, US and Japan

GameBoy Color:
Metroid 2 DX, unreleased/cancelled

GBA
Metroid Fusion
(Japanese version w/ extra endings and difficulty levels)
E3 200(2?) prototype Metroid Fusion with empty levels and Brown (!) Samus
Metroid: Zero Mission
(Working title, in development)

Super Famicom/Super NES
Super Metroid
(ROM sets identical for both versions)

GameCube
Metroid Prime
(Japanese version w/ silly extras: voice intro, computer voice during logbook scans)
Metroid Prime + GameCube bundle, PAL version only (?)

The SP + Tactics bundle was Japan only, getting a pearl white GBA SP with the FFTA logo etched on the corner of the system. I nearly bought it, since I'm that in love of Tactics.

Just to throw in my two cents, I know Rockman & Forte was released for Wonderswan a ways back. The Wily Wars...hmm, all I know is the title screen. I know there was a compilation Megaman game on the Genesis/Mega Drive, but I don't know what region.

You know you want one!!!

Ow...$279, and they don't even have them in stock. IF I had a choice to get one and only one GBA, I'd get that one. Just because. Wouldn't open it, though.

Yeah, Rockman & Forte was also released for the Super Famicom, but I'm fairly certain that both that and the Wonderswan version would not count under his domestics-only qualifier. Wily Wars is probably the MegaDrive compliation you're thinking of - it's got "enhanced" versions of MM1-3.

If we want to break into the import realm with it, there are a few other titles besides duplicates (ie: Rockman 1-6 on the Famicom, etc.)

Famicom: Rockboard
Saturn: Super Adventure Rockman
PSX: Rockman Battle and Chase
NGPC: Power Battles (1 and 2, I believe)

Anything else?

Yes, hence my "two cents" comment. I was just throwing that in for the public edification. And thanks for the bit about Wily Wars; I could fire up the ol' Gens but now I don't have to. I never really got into MegaMan, so my knowledge of the series is nil or less.
