Call of Duty: WOW collector's edition question

I just bought a used one and it came complet with the tin and canteen but I have a question? Were you supposed to be able to open the canteen. on the back of the box and even on the plastic cover for the canteen it says "not intended for drinking"... needless to say, I broke the top of mine off.
