Found a 32x at the flea for $5... no wires though. I'm sure there's enough dead 32x's out there to make an abundance of spare hookups!

Let me know.

The 32X uses the same AC adaptor thatthe model 2 and 3 Genesis requires.

The system link cable... good luck. You may have to buy another 32X to get one.

Yeah, your AC is going to be easy. 32X video passthrough cables go for $15+ on ebay, but a pack of electronics breadboard wires is cheaper. I have yet to actually order a Genesis 2 Stereo A/V Cable, so I've stuck those wires into the pin sockets and wired them to RCA jacks. It's great if you don't mind going the MacGuiver way over the sensible way.

I have this (http://www.apogeekits.com/jumper_wires.htm)same set:

Radio Shack usually has them.

Uh, and what do I do with that again?

Those wires are stiff, so they fit nicely in the pin holes of the consoles. It's a great quick-and-dirty substitute for a real cable.

From your Genesis to the 32X, match up the pins and connect them with wires. Ground just gets shoved between the metal ring and the plastic, somewhere that it'll stay put. In total, I believe you only need the two audios and comp video, plus ground, so four wires.

One of my friends claims to have a 32X without hookups that he may give to me, and this is what I plan to do until I decide to order an actual cable.

The end result:

Not pretty, and I'm still working on getting it working PROPERLY. It works as it is, but Genesis output is blue, while 32X stuff is full color, showing me what's being processed where.

Neat, guess I'll have to try this!

Yeah, I was confused about the 32X hookups too. You know what's even harder to find? The adapter cable for a Model 1 Genesis. Mine came with the system, thankfully.

That's a pretty ingenious plan, though.

I think I know why it's blue... I plugged in everything except the RGB pins, but I happened to plug in the blue one. Plugging in the red and green should fix things, but that's a heck of a lot of wires. One more thing, the Genesis power button won't work now, I have to shut it off by removing the 32X power. I'm going to have to experiment to see which connection is causing it, must be either sync or 5V DC. I also left Audio Mono empty, for obvious reasons.

Sorry to double post, but I fixed everything. The solution?

You need all three of the RGB leads. That means that the ONLY pin that isn't connected is the Audio Mono.

As for the problem with the power not turning off... Wow. Unplug the 32X power supply. Yeah, apparently, you don't need power to the 32X. Either I've discovered a secret and Sega is an evil wallwart maker, or I'm frying my 32X with that 5v pin. Hopefully the former. Seriously, what the hell?

I believe that round piece on the 32X link cable MIGHT somehow be important to the hookup... it's certainly not decoration.

If you mean the cylinder, that's a magnet. Those don't have any crucial purpose, from what I understand, they're just for shielding and interference reasons. They put them on controller wires and stuff.

So, before I go and fry my Sega consoles, can anyone tell me if it's safe to be running my 32X without its AC plugged in?

Edit: I made a new thread about this, in the technical+restoration forum.
