View Full Version : What console do you wish you collected more?

The other day I rediscovered my Neo Geo Pocket Color... and my minuscule collection of three games: Pac-Man, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Metal Slug.

I truly loved this portable and played it often back in 1999. It also had some Dreamcast connectivity if I'm not mistaken. Looking back I wish I had made more of an attempt to collect for this console. The games were fun, unique, and echoed that sense of arcade fun that I love so much.

I'm curious... What game consoles do you own, but wish you had done more with, collecting-wise?

BTW, it's not to late to start!

No idea, really. I'll probably start a Neo Geo Pocket Color collection in the summer, though.

Without question, Sega CD and Sega Saturn. The Saturn I have sort of an excuse since I didn't get one until mid 1998 when it was already effectively dead. But even so, I should have started grabbing games at the time. The Sega CD I just neglected since I was spending a lot more time with the SNES, Genesis, and eventually the Playstation.

Dreamcast. All I ever played back then was Sonic Adventure. I later got Crazy Taxi and Evolution, but I practically ignored everything else. To this day, I have maybe 8 games for DC, and I think that includes the web browser >_<.

Also, SNES. I'm just now starting to really expand beyond the Nintendo, Capcom, and Square stuff.

The hole that offends me right now is Saturn, as I only have 5 or so.

Finally, Xbox 360. I finally get tired of following current RPGs and they pick up speed. *sigh* I'll probably wait for the next generation and pick up everything Japanese at GameStop 3-for-2 sales, like I did with Xbox.

I hear ya. My SegaCD and Saturn collection is the least of my entire video game collection. I need to focus on that a wee bit more.

Right now I'm almost done with a NGPC collection (US set) so once I'm done with that, I will probably focus on those two consoles...though I know I will be spending quite a bit...

But it's ok, I will take it easy.

Back when I still had it, my Atari 400. I bought it at a garage sale back in 2004, and never found any games for it outside of the copy of Missile Command that came with it. I sold it off about 3 years later because it was taking up space and I wasn't doing anything with it.

When I think about this question, I think more in terms of how many quality titles I have for a given system. Even if I have a bunch of games, if I don't want to play most of them besides a quick try, then the system isn't doing much good. But if I look at, say, my GameCube collection, I really don't have that many games for it, but I don't have any strong urge to get more because almost all are quality titles and I haven't even bothered to play all the way through most of them yet.

So with that said, my Sega CD collection is woefully limited in games I'd put serious time into, and it's probably going to stay that way for awhile as I don't particularly have the desire to spend the necessary amount of money to put up the RPGs and what have you that I'd like to own. Same basically holds true for Dreamcast, but in that case I can't even think of many titles I want to own. Ditto on Game Gear (its existence in my collection is pretty much to just play Shining Force). Heck, even the quality of my Genesis collection leaves a little to be desired. I guess this is what I get for not following most of Sega's systems when they were new, so my collections are at the mercy of whatever I stumble across in thrift stores and such. My PC Engine could use some improving too. I have about 5 games that I really love and the rest gets ignored.

So maybe I'm answering the question a little wonky, but those are the systems that I'd love to find more games for, especially ones that can beef up my quality ratio.

I've always neglected my Genesis collection. I'd pick games up for it here and there, whenever I'd find something that looked like it might be hard to find later down the road, but I didn't put any effort into it. I'm slowly getting back into it. I've also only got a few dirt common 32X games, and nowadays it's really difficult to locate non-sucky games in the wild. Strangely, I'm good for Sega CD games. I've always had a weird fascination for them, so I've always picked them up whenever I could. It's gotten me a few rarities over the years.

Earthworm Jim is good. S.O.S. is very creative, if you like more unique games that make good use of the SNES's Mode7.

I want to find more, but the developers I mentioned were really the best of the best when it came to cartridge development. A lot of the others seemed to be just grasping the concept of what the system could do, but I know there's some real gems out there.

Since I am almost at 50 consoles/computers it is hard to choose which to concentrate on. I guess NGpC and B&W should get more of my attention.

On NES, I would never leave Konami out. On SNES, however, nothing comes to mind. Aside from Castlevania, I really don't know of anything that they did on SNES.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Cybernator as well.

And if you want to count imports, there are loads more amazing Konami games, most of which are English-friendly. There are three more Goemon games (the fourth is one of the best showcases of the Super Nintendo's capabilities), two TwinBee games, three Parodius games I believe, and Madara 2, just to name some of the cream of the crop.

The current system I am working on is the PS1. A few weeks ago I had the system and 1 game ( Gran Turismo 2 )

Over the last 2 weeks, I have gone nuts over ps1 games, only collecting black labels, I picked up the following.

FF VII
FF VIII
FF IX
Gran Turismo 1
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Syphon Filter
Syphon Filter 2
Warhawk
Ridge Racer
Army Men 3D 1,2, sarges heroes
Medieval
Soul Reaver
Metal Gear Solid

And about 15 more I cant think of right off the bat. It is expensive going after CIB Black Labels, but I am trying to impress the friends that I no longer have or hang out with ( weird huh? ) :help:

Grand Theft Auto
GTA London expansion
Diablo
Final Doom
Wild 9
Warcraft II Dark Saga

there is more lol

I'm in the Needing to get more SNES games camp. I only have about 20 or so and only a few of them are what I'd consider must have titles (SMW, Metroid, FFIV, Sim City, NBA Jam TE, and maybe Street Fighter II). I really want to pick up the Act Raisers, Lufia's, Earthbound (used to have it and sold it), FFVI, Castlevania, and a ton more.

Mainly the Turbo (both hucard and CD). I have a decent sized collection but there's a lot more that I want. A lot of games for it can be quite hard to track down. But so far I've mostly gotten US games, so maybe I should look into imports more.

My Gamecube collection is horrible.
My SNES collection isn't something to brag about.
Saturn and Sega CD are lacking...3 games between the 2 of em (ouch)

All great games.

Oh boy, time for me to 'sperg out.

Cybernator wasn't made by Konami. It was a Masaya/NCS game that Konami released in the West.

Also, Zombies Ate My Neighbors (like Metal Warriors) was a LucasArts game that Konami published.

Also, Gradius III sucks.

Yeah, about the only game on that list that I'm interested in finding is Cybernator. There just wasn't as much original Konami stuff for SNES.

for NES, i need more of the high class titles (no metroids, megamans, final fantasies, or dragon quests yet)

for SNES, i'm lacking in the deeper titles (most of my now library of 56 is comprised of kids games, that although great in soundtrack and gameplay, lack depth of plot)

for N64, i'm missing pretty much everything. The only stuff I got is StarFox 64, Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, DK64, and the two Zeldas, in addition to a bunch of halfassed sports games and some of the sequels to Top Gear.

Finally, i still need a Sega CD unit, and again, most of my SCD games are lame. None of the ones discussed here on DP are in my measly collection of 13. I have:

- Animals, The (San Diego Zoo thingy)
- Dracula Unleashed
- Dragon's Lair
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Ground Zero Texas
- Jeopardy
- Jurassic Park
- Lethal Enforcers
- Mad Dog McCree
- Mansion of Hidden Souls
- Sega Classics Arcade Collection
- Star Wars Chess
- Wheel of Fortune

I also have a few GGear games i'll probably just throw in the trade box. I dont care for GG much, and I don't even have one. Was offered one with a bunch of games and carrier case for $20 a few years back, but ended up passing the offer (was at a yard sale down the street, they moved though)

- My genesis collection is pretty mediocre. Again, I'm missing a LOT of titles people talk about. Probably the only games of any notoriety that I have are Sonic (1, 2, 3, S&K, and Spinball) and Out of This World, although i also have some fun games like Gain Ground, Dinoland Pinball, and The Haunting Starring Poulterguy

- finally, my PS1 collection could be looking for some sprucing up. Im missing some titles, but I am sitting on a pretty well rounded library of 45, although missing RPGs and a good amount is in the trade bin. My PS2 and GameCube collections are doin pretty good, with at least 50 games apiece (84 in the PS2/s case) I love the majority of each of their titles, especially the GameCube, although I definitely reccomend Dark Cloud and Team ICO on the PS2, as well as MetropolisMania by Natsume.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I know those things. Nobody specifically said anything about developers, so in terms of discussing "Konami games on SNES", I think anything published by them is fair game.

Just as with the aforementioned Nintendo, Capcom, and Square, plenty of their games weren't actually developed by them. But I wouldn't, say, recommend Rare in this topic, when "Nintendo SNES games" already covers that. Or let's throw a real kink into this and consider Breath of Fire, a Capcom-developed, Squaresoft-published release.

Well I've only really had decent collections for Dreamcast (150 games) saturn I had lots of rares but I wish I had kept my saturn and collected more-perhaps again later. I still have my sega cd and need more games. I had a nearly complete NGPC collection at one point. biggest thing is I wish I had the space, time and money to not have to ever sell anything

If you like LucasArts and Cybernator-style mech shooters, you should definitely check out Metal Warriors. It lacks the cartoonish appeal of those old LucasArts adventure games, but it's an excellent side-scrolling action game in the spirit of Cybernator. Too bad it's hard to come by Metal Warriors cartridges.

Wow, mature. And totally called for.

Still mad that I decided it wasn't worth wasting my time to keep reading the your insane ramblings about how every female character is a perverse affront to your neo-Nazi level militant feminism unless she's dressed in a burlap bag, which only convinces women that you're the creep that can't stop thinking about sex and has never seen a pair of breasts in real life and tries to make up for it in some bizarre, subconscious reverse psychology in which anything that could be remotely attractive on the most minute levels of excruciating dissection is thoroughly offensive to your very core?

It's really a damn shame too because I enjoy your writing on your site, but it's ruined when every other line makes me wonder what the hell emotional damage or mental illness plagues you. Although maybe you already answered that question for us.

...you're the creep that can't stop thinking about sex and has never seen a pair of breasts in real life and tries to make up for it in some bizarre, subconscious reverse psychology...

I talk with Kid Fenris on a daily basis and let me tell you, that boy is sick. He is constantly interspersing our conversations with pornographic material that has nothing to do with whatever topic we're discussing, were it not for the quality and vintage of the vulgar imagery in question I would have left him alone quite some time ago. But man, sepia toned 8x10 prints of flapper girls getting it on with a hog in spats and top hat. Prawns suspended in gelatin wobbling over swollen breasts injected with saline. Perpetual enemas facilitated by surgical insertion of garden hoses through the abdominal cavity. Rare shit that delves into avant garde artistry we wouldn't see mainstreamed until Behind The Green Door.

I digress.

I want to personally apologize for Kid Fenris picking on you Aussie2B, you are a beautiful individual that genuinely doesn't deserve his harsh attention. If we ever meet in person I will personally buy you a hamburger for your troubles. I am not being sarcastic, you will some day get a lunch of condolence.

I think it would be Original Gameboy. I have and get enough Nes games. I have over 350. Atari is easy to find. Seems people don't want or don't know much about the prices/rarity. But gameboy is a labor. I get maybe 1 or 2 good ones, I don't already have, a month. I have over 100. I would like a complete set. But there's a few reasons why I don't want to. First I did not have a lot of them as a kid. There's a lot of crappy games and the release lists are very screwy. All these reasons are why I collect Nes.
