Well, today I picked up possibly the best piece of retro gaming equipment I have scored to date! A Sega Megadrive Chair controller ... for full on driving / flight sim action. Haven't unpacked it and put it together yet, but it looks pretty cool. It is also rather heavy and I'm glad that I had a freind to help me carry it back via train and bus!

I don't think I've ever seen one of these things before, and they must have been fairly unique even when the Megadrive was at its peak...

Best thing is, that I got the whole thing along with Virtua Racing and Ayrton Senna's GP for £30 ($50)!!

Pics will follow once I have put it together!

Well, I've got all the bits out and it is looking pretty good. The best thing is that it appears that the seat is micro-switched, meaning that you steer by leaning in the appropriate direction :D

It needs some bolts and screws to be put in place before I can get it in action, but hopefully I should have time to do that tomorrow. Most of my freinds think that I'm mad or sad or both for getting this thing, but I really don't care.... I happen to think it is pretty fantastically cool!

Sent the photo .. Thanks!! :)

I still have to fasten the seat down and test it out, but am a bit busy with work at the mo, so I thought I would get the picture taken for all those people who wanted to see it ... Although you can't see on the picture, there are actually two buttons on each arm. The one you can see on the top, and one on the inside of the foam handle section. So they are the Start, A, B and C buttons .. and the "d-pad" is the base of the chair.

SWEEEEET :D

I can't really tell, is the seat higher up than what it looks like? It looks like the seat is pretty much at floor level, does it fold up to the size of a regular chair?

The seat is not at floor level, however the chair is fairly low slung. The bit sticking out at the front is not actually resting on the floor, it is an elevated foot rest - you sit in a reclined position, with your feet on the bar at the end.

I really can't wait to use it :D

And I am quite intrigued as to what it will be like on other games as well... like Sonic! Or even Micro Machines...

Once I've got the time, I will take some more photos and put them up on my Geocities site. According the instruction sheet, it is a "Simulator II Action Chair", and the company apparently made a similar item for the SNES. However there is no indication of who the company that made it is, apart from that they were called "STI". If anyone knows anything more about this, or has any information about the company, or how many units were produced in this line, I would be very grateful. Has anyone seen one of these before?

I have one here in the US. The difference is the seat is padded vinyl. It is in mint condition. I bought it for the kids a L O N G time ago. Anyone know the value?
