I mentioned in some other thread last week that I had completed the US Sega CD collection. This morning, I gathered them all up for some "collector"-style pictures. If you're a fan of the system, or just like seeing lots of games all in one photograph, check this out!

Man that looks great. Question though: does it hurt any to know there's some really BAD games in there? :D

Nice. I have a question: In the second photo, what's in the unmarked case underneath Snatcher, at the bottom of the fourth row from the left?

I didn't see Colors of Modern Rock in the picture anywhere (Or does it even count?).

Was it hard getting all the cardboard games in such good condition, or was it part of a lucky find/early collecting?

Say what you will about the quality of some of those Sega CD games (and there is alot to say), but that collection is truly a thing of beauty. Congrats.

I guess it "counts", I left it out of the picture. I was gonna leave the "Hot Hits/Rock Paintings" out too, but it's got a sort of history with Sega CD people (pack-in). I might add some more pictures to the page, I'll include it if you want to see what it looks like!

Almost all of those were acquired "back in the day". Did I ever tell you that I waited in line at EB the night they received the Sega CD? As disappointing as the system was to many, it WAS big. REALLY big, when it first came out. And I gobbled up those early titles as soon as they were released.

My thoughts exactly regarding the Cardboard boxed titles. That's the most impressive part to me.

I was like you Joe - plunked down big dollars the first week the Sega CD came out. I wish that I still had it box and all - I will just have to settle with the 1st version I picked up for $10.

Very nice collection!!

Which brings up another question: besides Sega CD and Turbo Grafix, what other collections have you finished, Joe?

Steve

I've been on a Sega kick the last two years, finishing off Dreamcast and Master System last year; Genesis is imminent this year... but there's a thread with everyone's complete collections (including mine) right here:

I notice you have all the plastic case games stacked on one another, and with the manuals facing upwards. I personally don't do this, as I worry about the weight of the games above damaging the cases below. More importantly, having the manuals on top encourages gravity to work its magic, causing "case hang", where the manual starts to warp and bow back into the case. Very annoying phenomenon on US SCD and Saturn games.

I'm sure you've already considered such things, but I thought I'd throw it out for other peoples' benefit. Down with case hang!

That is sweet. I think this is the first time I've seen a complete collection of any system. Thanks for showing us Joe!

Only in the pictures, my friend. My Sega CD and Saturn games are typically stored vertically, for the reasons you state above.

That's why I'm a fan of sitting my game boxes on a shelf, just as you'd put books. A gravity-warped manual is, for me, even more annoying than a plain old beat up one--you won't pay top dollar for a ripped up one, but if it looks fine, just warped, you might have to pay that extra. In terms of annoyance, I find this one right up there with scuffs on the manual or tears on the edges from people putting them back in against the cardboard carelessly :/

I'm not sure how to answer the first question "how much money"... do you mean how much I spent (too much) or how much it's worth (not enough)? Either way, the 'values' are in the online lists at http://www.digitpress.com/lists.htm

As for the last game I found, that's in the link too:

Is your Night Trap the uncensored version? I always had a crush on that chick that starred in Different Strokes... before she started knocking over liquor stores and stuff.

I've always wanted to play Night Trap, Sonic CD, and Final Fight CD. I was so close to getting a Sega Genesis/CD combo unit!

Is your Night Trap the uncensored version?

Both. The red box is the non-censored, the blue is the censored... though I'm still wondering what the difference is. I've never actually compared them side-by-side. Anyone?

Nice collection there Joe.

The Genesis happens to be my favorite machine (ducks for cover). I bought the Sega CD when they came out with the second model. I heard of problems with the first so I waited a while.

Question:
Do you have ALL the releases of Lunar for the Sega CD? There were 7 made.

Joe that collection looks sweet. Another complete collection to add to your vault. Most collectors don't even own a complete set of teeth. You are the man !!

Everybody loves a complete collection.

What amazes me about you, Joe, is that you buy so much when it's still being sold retail. Predominantly discount, I'd imagine, but still. 95% of my stuff is aftermarket resale.

I have to admit that I have bought some of my collections in a non-resale capacity, like Jaguar and Lynx. And I don't feel bad about those. Of course I didn't pay full price, but I did gobble them up discount. And it is actually kind of cool. I don't have to worry about box upgrading 50% of the collection.

I'm going for a complete SCD collection at some point. I'll have to check the guide to see which are the toughest titles.

Alright, now I know that's a huge custom cabinet- does it fit your entire collection? I'm going to need to work my ROD (Room of Doom you dirty birdies) for space, so how much does such a custom thing cost, and what features do I have to remember to include? Once we have taken care of other more pressing issues in our home, creating such a built in will be my goal.
