Saw this posted on DVDTalk, it's a NeoGAF photoshop thread with some covers that are too inspired not to share. Some have printable versions for DVD cases as well.

I think that case art is lacking in today's market. Case art needs to be just as thought out as the game itself. Just think how much more attractive sports titles would be with art like this:)

For the most part these are actually pretty inspired and well done.
As far as DVDs go, Criterion has the best cover art on the market. They've really elevated it as an art form, if you ask me. In the past few decades movie posters and home video cover art had gotten pretty bland until Criterion came along.

Well, you might say the covers for the Criterion editions of the Wes Anderson films are different, but the fact very much remains that I could have drawn something like that when I was twelve.
But I agree, these are classy.
man! these are awesome!
they make me want to print off and replace my old covers with

The Bioshock and Beyond Good and Evil are my personal favorites, though the others are excellent as well.

Some. If you check the first post of the NeoGAF thread, it has links to all the useable ones.

Insane....I wish more of em were hi-res though....grabbed the few I could. I'd pay money for some of those as hi-res replacement covers...

I approve. Bioshock and Dr. Mario FTW!
I love the cover for Killer 7, if I had a good printer I'd print that one out and use it as a replacement.

You guys may like these: depictions of game covers if they were classical novels published in the 80s;

The fact that these people have these photoshop skills and for the most part aren't employed as professional graphic designers should be enough to dissaude most people from going into that field.
These are awesome.

I can so easily imagine classes of bored high school students sometime in the distant future being assigned to play these games and analyze their contents.

Awesome idea (and awesome cover art). The problem is there is still a prevailing mindset in America that games are nothing more than playthings for children. Criterion is all about preserving definitive versions of certain films, which have long been regarded as an art form. Most people don't think that these games merit any sort of artistic significance, and would be confused on the dichotomy between the original intended audience and marketing and the "adultification" associated with something like Criterion.
Uh, I hope that made *some* sense... can someone else better explain what I mean?

Which, the originals or the Something Awful ones? The SA ones were supposed to be a joke. They suck on purpose.

The one's posted in this thread, I didn't follow that link. They all seem ugly to me, there's supposed to be half that are good and the other half intentionally bad?

These are awesome.
But why are we just spectators? They're not exactly difficult to do (except for the fact that some of those are absolute genius); surely some of us DP members could do our own. I'd say just post over there (and would do so myself) but they have a ridiculous approval process for new members.

Let them keep their exclusive club. Let's break out some DP original cover art!

That's what I'm saying. We shoud rip-off their concept and do DP ones. Someone make a DP version of the template.
