For those collectors who want games for any system you have and you just can't decide what system to buy a game or a lot of games for next, I have a good idea. I just thought about this in another thread but it seems like such a good idea, it may deserve its own thread.

Anyone want to give it a try?

Write out a list of your current systems you have and number them from 1 to whatever it goes up to. Limit it to game format, not same system variants.

Go to http://www.roll-dice-online.com/

Set up how ever many sides you need on your dice, choose to only use one and to roll only once. The site will display a random number. Find the system you gave that number to and go buy yourself a game for it. Repeat the process with lists of game types if you really want to get picky with how random the game will be.

I decided when I do it, I have to use the 100 sided die. If I get one point higher than my highest numbered system, that means I will save for a new kind of system. If I get 2 points higher then I will save for a new variant of a system I already have. Anything higher I re-roll.

I would like to see the results so if anyone wants to share what system they get to buy a game for next, post the results in this thread.

I got a 15.

I'm going to buy a Sega Master System game next according to my list.

EDIT: for this one I narrowed it down to arcade ports and found a good deal on Columns so that's what I bought.

I'll try this again as soon as Columns gets here.

The World Series of Video Game Collecting.

I unfortunately only collect for platforms I like. Since I don't hook up any of my systems before PSX now(as I emulate them on the PSP) I no longer purchase games for those systems unless I see some sortof amazing deal(and completed mint condition only.)

But what if my elf paladin has a magic robe that gives him a +4 modifier when collecting Lynx games?

If you don't actually like systems like the Lynx, I just wouldn't include them in the list. If you meant you'd rather buy groups of more than one game for the system I'd do the same thing if I saw a good deal.

Myself, I like something about every system so I listed them all. People who only like systems like Playstation and on could just use a dice with fewer sides, namely the number of systems you like to play on.

But pretty much the point is that I like video games so much that I thought I'd turn the act of collecting games into a game itself.

not how i would choose to select a collection but i do use a coin if i find a deal on 2 things and only want to buy one.

Well Columns for Sega Master System finally arrived today. I have to say the SMS version is pretty good even though I already played the better looking Genesis version. It's all about the gameplay, not the graphics.

I rolled my next number and it was a 46. For me that's PSP so this seems to be getting me a good variety of old and new games. Now a PSP game is simple to acquire. I just have to go to the store and look around, and if I don't see what I want I'll just shop online again.

I know I want an RPG for PSP so I'm looking around at those. I am considering maybe the Star Ocean 1 remake since I never played any Star Ocean games. I have plenty of versions of FF1 & FF2 so I decided to pass on those for now.

EDIT: Yeah I found Star Ocean: First Departure CIB for $22.50 after shipping. Probably as much as it would have been in the store after tax. I doubt they have it at my local Game Crazy though. They don't seem to have many interesting looking used PSP games most of the time. Lots of people like to keep the good stuff to play through more than once.

It is an interesting idea (I suppose it may be a different approach to take), but if someone is indecisive enough to base their spending habits on rolling dice then maybe you should pursue other ventures.

Haha, totally agree.

Nah, I want lots of stuff for every system. I am just doing this to curtail my bad spending habits. If I had tons of money I would go and buy a ton of RPGs all at once like I used to, then wait a week and buy a bunch of platformers or arcade games.

I only mentioned this because someone else liked my idea. It's more of a way to force myself to buy one game at a time so I can save money.
