Supposedly the game supports it since they were gonna release some sort of special connector... anybody know how this is done and/or what this connector entails?

IIRC you just need to link up a few gameboy 4 player adapters (they only made these for the big brick GB but you can use an adapter to make it work on a GB that has the smaller link port)
