Classic Gaming Fans will go Mad for MAD BODIES
New video game for the classic Atari Jaguar video game console transcends genres

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J., May 2, 2009 – 3D Stooges Software today announced the release of its long-awaited video game cartridge for the Atari Jaguar interactive multimedia system, MAD BODIES. The game features a unique style that fuses classic Breakout-style game play with shooter mechanics for a video game experience like no other.

Developed by FORCE Design, MAD BODIES puts the player in the midst of the Dark Knight Games tournament hosted by Dave Vapourware. The battle takes place over 10 stages, and with an arsenal of multiple weapons and power-ups, the player fights to take out The Graphics Man and prevent his ultimate rule of the universe.

Steven Scavone, chief executive officer of 3D Stooges Software, shared his insight into classic video game development.

“After a half-dozen years in development, 3D Stooges Software and FORCE Design are pleased to bring this exceptional game to the Jaguar community,” said Scavone. “Classic gaming development is a labor of love that we all do in our spare time – we if we were getting paid for this we’d do it all the time!”

MAD BODIES features include:

10 stages of non-stop, world batting/shooting action
Multiple power-ups and weapons
Graphical special effects including morphing, scaling and screen quake
Stereo soundtrack
Unique sound samples and digital speech

MAD BODIES comes in an oversized plastic clamshell case with full color cover and cartridge label, and a semi-gloss, black and white instruction manual. The game is for one player only and is recommended for ages 8 and up.

Pretty cool. Didn't think we'd see another Jag release. You should post some pics here. :)

This is yet another reason why I need to buy a jaguar

Too expensive. There's no reason for new Jag games to cost $80 these days, other than greed and the hordes of idiots willing to pay ANY amount for a new Jag game. Lower the price to $60 and I'll buy it, but I won't pay more. The days of new $80 Jag games should've ended when the system ended. No other new homebrews for any other old systems cost anywhere near that much, so I don't see why every new Jag homebrew thinks it has to cost a fortune, other than the reasons already stated. The Jag dev community needs to get over the idea that every new Jag game is worth that much. Just because that's what Atari charged for new Jag games when the system was still in production is no excuse to charge that much a decade afterwards.

Jaguar Games are not like genesis, atari, intellivision, Nes....even the cheap games are $5 to $10 easy. Also, when making new games for these carts, there is alot of work that goes into making these. While $80 is alot for a game, I am happy to see a new game. I wish them well with their homebrew game.

Greed??? I doubt the production team will even break even at $80 a game!

I'm guessing you're a teenager, so it's an easy mistake to make. Boy are you gonna be in for a shock when you have to move out of your parents' place, it costs quite a lot of money to do pretty much anything creative nowadays!

Thanks for the support guys.

All the hours that went into making this game will never be compensated for monetarily.
I can definitely say that I would have made far more money spending those developing hours working at McDonalds!

Says someone with no idea what it costs to make a game...

While I don't agree with Iron Draggon's sentiment, technically "making" a game can be free (ignoring truisms like "time = money"). What often times does cost an arm and a leg are investments into dev kits and tools should they be necessary and packaging the creation into a salable product. I, however, have no idea what the raw materials of said product cost as I've never tried to package any of my creations.

nothing against homebrew games at all, its the jaguar i cant wrap my mind around...why anyone would want to develop anything for such a godawful system is beyond me

Hey look at it this way. The reason why Jaguar was so bad was that it didn't have many games.

If 100 people make homebrew games for the Jag, it will have what it was missing.

I just sent my $$$

I have 2 things to say about the price.

1. Supply and demand dictate prices in America.
Obviously some people think jag games are worth the price

2. It has been my experience that people, who complain about
prices, have never created anything and have never owned
their own business. Therefore, they have now idea how much
effort and cost go into a project.

And most people who claim the Jag sucks have never even played one!

Even if you assume time is free, the up front costs on producing the packaging and carts for 250 NES games is more then $2,500. I would imagine a Jag game would cost much more.

I love homebrew games, and love to support homebrew development, and I'd bet I've got more homebrew items than most folks on this board.

AND, as soon as I read this I thought to myself that I'd like to investigate and probably buy the game, but I simply can't afford the asking price right now.

HOWEVER, it never occurred to me to complain about or criticize the price. Steve S is selling the game, and he has every right to charge whatever he chooses to charge. I hope there are copies available when I'm able to buy, but if not, then that's life, and I'll still keep trucking along just fine.

PS: I love the bit about Dark Knight Games and Dave Vapourware! ;)

Bet you've never even played a game on one. It has quite a few excellent games like Super Burnout, Power Drive Rally, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Aliens Vs. Predators, Tempest 2000, to name a few.

This game doesn't look like my cup of tea so I'll be taking a pass on it, but I think its awesome that there's homebrew development going on for this system and I look forward to any future efforts they might undertake if they decide to do another project.
