Just closed a deal on a sweet CDi package including:

-Digital Video Cartridge
- Controller (Gamepad type controller NOT remote)
- Hookups
- Gun
- book of CD-i backups (also left a few Jag CD discs in there...who knows,
maybe someday you'll get a Jag CD and need games right?)
- 9 DVDR set is iso's
- 11 original game discs (8 titles total + 3 dupes) marked as demo discs,
I understand these are a bit hard to come by.
- 5 original retail games in cases
- 1 original CD-i movie, "Addams Family"

LOL! Well the collector side of me is stoked, of course most reviews and info on the net is not to
positive regarding the machine that brought the worst Zelda games ever but I am looking forward
to making my own MaximumRD video and TRY to put a positive spin on it heh!

I'd like to reassure you and confide that the CDi is a under appreciated machine, but mine's ben collecting dust or the past six years so... yeah, maybe not. I bought it for the Zeldas and thought I'd at least enjoy some of the FMV games. But, it didn't really work out that way. At least it plays burns.

I've never found a single redeeming factor involving the CDi. Anyone own this system and love it? I had it for a while... terrible controls and terrible games. Felt more like a multimedia educational software device.

I've actually heard that Zelda's Adventure isn't too bad. Granted, I hanv't ever played a CD-i(as I'm sure most other people who hate on it havn't either) but it does seem to be the best of the 3 Zelda's on the system and returns to the games roots.

don't assume it's a gaming console (like most people do), it's an entertainment machine, MAINLY for films and edutainment.
Games always came third in CDis priority.

Well done on the deal anyway.

I congratulate you on getting the gamepad controller. I want one of those and I refuse to use a Genesis controller with an adaptor.

I have a small collection of cd-i games(two actually) but I've never found an affordable system to buy. All the sellers on ebay want like $80-130 for systems and they can keep those. I've also heard that it's a subpar gaming system but I still want one to play and have in my collection.

I've always been intrigued by Little Divil or Devil or Div'l or however it's spelled. Looked like a sleeper hit on the CD-I, and I remember it getting pretty positive reviews back in the day.

Also, there's Tetris. Woot.

Looking forward to your video review of the machine. I haven't seen one of those since they were in a kiosk at Sears.

Zelda's Adventure is by far the worst of the three Zelda games on the system, IMO.

Anyway, Burn: Cycle is supposedly the best game on the system. I personally enjoyed Kingdom: The Far Reaches (and its sequel, Shadoan), but I think I'm in the minority.

Er, are you confusing me with someone else? This has happened before, I AM NOT OSG the guy who mods consoles, I don't own nor have I ever promised to collect PCB's...................

You're selling your console shmups to fund this garbage? Dammit OSG >< You promised you'd collect cool stuff like expensive shmup PCBs.

I have a CD-i and I have to say my top two favorite games for it are pretty basic.

Tetris for CD-i:
It has nice looking moving backgrounds due to them being recorded videos and relaxing music.

Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam -

A very basic side-scrolling fighter that plays much like Streets of Rage and Final Fight.
There are cutscenes before each level with an announcer and the level's boss that reminds me of the FMV sequences in Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus for Playstation featuring the Slig as a news reporter and the three Glukkon department heads. The makers of Oddworld were clearly spoofing Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam when making those FMVs.

Other than those two games I haven't gotten much enjoyment out of the CD-i. But I do like the false Nintendo character games simply due to the fact that they are highly spoofed on youtube. Gotta love YTP as it has become one of my favorite forms of comedy. It makes seeing the custcenes on the actual systems that much funnier.

About Zelda's Adventure: one it has a hefty price tag. Two, it has horrible loading times between each room and an item select screen that is not designed very well. James Rolfe did a video on CD-i and it really shows how bad the gameplay of the four fake Nintendo games is. Still, I think they are fun to look at but not play seriously.

!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!

I couldn't help myself, I ordered one of those adaptors to allow using a Sega Genesis Gamepad. Figured even if the gamepad it comes with is crap then this will provide and option.

If you bought something you won't like then I shouldn't particularly care. Hope you get some fun out of it, and remember kids: Buying stuff because you want to be a bigshot collector is bad for you ;)

(Next on my auction chopping block is probably the Car Marty which I never use.)

Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam
I didn't know about this one, so I'll have to check it out.

This thread reminds me (as always) that I want to spend some more time with the first two CD-i Zeldas and Hotel Mario (I'd say the same of 7th Guest but some kind of bug or hardware issue is stopping my progress in that one).

Then yes I'm confusing you with the OSG at other gaming forums :(
I think that guy has an account here as OldSchoolGamer.ca...or maybe something else entirely. Can't really complain as our OSG has been here...as long as I can remember.

Honestly I've seen almost as many 'demo discs' as I have regular releases in the wild. I've got a bunch of them myself, including Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon. Maybe they've shown up in my area for a reason. I don't know if Philips had an office in this area that dealt with CD-i stuff in the past. Sadly, only the Zelda title is a game, all the rest of the demos I have are educational stuff, like learning how to play the guitar or art appreciation.

Do you guys have to use these stupid 4chan-style replies? I know you people are young and wanna be 'hip' and stuff, but please, this 4chan crap has been done to death. I guess I wouldn't mind it if it was remotely funny, but it's not even that.

I watched some of his videos before. He reviewed The Apprentice and it actually looks pretty good, it almost makes me want to get a system for that game. That was the only positive review that I remember watching, all the other videos I've seen have the game come across as horrible(like a sub par port of Micro Machines or The 7th Guest missing some puzzles, etc).

LOL! Well I am not looking to be a "BIG SHOT COLLECTOR" I just enjoy collecting period, good and bad, I plan on getting more consoles I am sure to despise :frustrated: but I need to verify for myself. I enjoy experiencing systems I never did before, that is all. If I get to the point where I am like "OH THIS REALLY SUCKS and has no redeeming value" then I turn around and trade or sell it and move onto the next system I will love or despise LOL! Keep it in circulation and hopefully they find their way to somebody who appreciates them more.......
Also, I realize about the "original" OSG here, it was a name I used on many forums before coming here and adjusted it just enough to be used here, it HAS caused some confusion in the past, for example when I started my REFS thread someone praised me up and down thinking I was the other OSG I corrected them as I wanted to build my own refs, which is cool, I have no issue with that, I just like to clear things up so I am not confused with someone else :D To be honest, given the chance I would do it over and sign up as MaximumRD (I go by that more these days) I just don't want to lose my posts and history I have built up here from scratch. I am just doing what I enjoy, having fun and sharing as I am sure many here can relate too..........

I've had a CDI for years, but I have no software for it. I bought it from a lady at a fleamarket who thought it was a regular CD player for, I think, 10 bucks. I keep meaning to get some games to try out on it but never get around to it.

I've also heard that it's a subpar gaming system but I still want one to play and have in my collection.

The main problem with the system is that almost no developers tried to push the machine. The few fast action games play pretty well, and look as good as any SNES/Genesis game of the time. The Apprentice could compete pretty well.

But, most of the games weren't programmed/designed very well.

I've had a CD-i lying next to my bed for about a week now. Picked it up at a thrift store, just a console and a game, no cables or controllers.

So, I'm not sure if it works, but I can't wait to get it up and running.

There don't seem to be a lot of good games on it, but the Zelda and Hotel Mario games are interesting additions to any collection.

Interesting but very expensive. Ludicrous eBay prices for them.
