In the last 24 hours I have seen 2 year defining things: one you will see shortly on our cover the other I can't speak of, both awesome

http://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc/status/1733543019

They're probably 2 very boring announcements, but, if I were to dream a bit, I would hope for 2 of the following:

*Wii HD with not only high definition resolution, but new central processor and graphics processor and more RAM, bringing the new Wii upto the level of 360/PS3.

*Microsoft's and/or Sony's long-rumored motion-controller tech and software that makes good use of it

*Legend of Zelda built from-the-ground-up for Wii and the new MotionPlus unit. The new Zelda is as ground-breaking as OoT was.

*PSP Go! with a new chipset making it a true PSP2

*Apple entering the console market with an amazing new machine that's not only more powerful than 360/PS3, but has motion controls that surpass Wii with MotionPlus and whatever motion-tech Microsoft/Sony have planned. Thus, a true NEXT-gen console that can compete with the future XB3 and PS4

i thought you were gonna dream, not snort magical fairy dust chased with unicorn farts... j/k

seriously though, if apple were to release a console, i guarantee they'd go for the underpowered + simple games route. the wii's proven that's a viable strategy to make moolah.

and as far as the wiihd (hehe) i doubt it'd change up the cpu/gpu so it'd have backward compatibility. course, nintendo has proven lately they don't care about bc, so what do i know. and i'm sure folks like us would like to see a wiihd, but consider that consumers are still lapping up the wii without the first price drop. i think we'll see nintendo milk that teat a while longer before upgrading.

can't wait til e3.

Wouldn't that be a bad thing? In this economy, with the Wii also still being a young system, releasing a brand new console would really screw things up.

It's the new HD Wii and new PSP. Sorry for "ruining" it for everyone.

I wonder if these announcements are going to be as "Spectacular" as Sega said the theirs would be when they announced Matrix Online LOL

I've never played it but I doubt it was as buggy and all around bad as Enter The Matrix was.

I was a regular poster on the Sega Forums back when they announced their partnership in the making of the Matrix Online and they said something along the lines of it being the game announcment of the year and it will change everything. Everyone assumed something like a new console... but oh no... Just the Matrix. LOL

It's always like that. Whenever the PR guys prep you by saying how amazing an announcement is going to be, it's usually something either very predictable (as in, no announcement is needed at all) or very stupid. Like back when everybody was going nuts over "It" and what "It" could possibly be. I remember thinking that for something that's getting this much fanfare it better be some kind of cold fusion reactor. But, nope. It was just a scooter that doesn't fall down. I can't remember the last time I was significantly "prepped" for an announcement and had the announcement actually wow me. Usually, the announcements that do wow me tend to be the ones that come out of left field.

Apple will never make another console. If they're not used as PCs to play games, there's no chance ever they're going to make a video game console. And since Apple Pippin failed miserably, the chances of Apple making a console are probably less than Sega's.

Why do you wish for such horrible things?

Oh, wait, I get it - you want Apple to fail after depleting their cash reserves even faster than Microsoft, and taking Bungie with them. Well played, sir!

Dont forget the fact that they will introduce the oh-so-cutesy pet use of the camelcase word with a lower case I before the main part of the word into the game market... Next thing you know iMario, iLegend of Zelda, iSonic, iHalo, iStreet Fighter V. LOL

Ah but the Pippin was long before the ipod became an inexplicable worldwide phenomenon, and the iphone became (in the eyes of Hideo Kojima and about 4 others) a viable gaming platform. It wouldn't surprise me too much if Apple decided to try to get a foothold in the market.

It'd surprise me greatly if they actually succeeded, though.

On more a more important note, I hope one of the announcements is Yakuza 3 for the US, that to me would be very year defining.

This one is probably a game. Game Informer covers are almost always about an exclusive major game reveal.

About the PSP Go! or whatever it is, if it is the PSP 2, why would Sony be releasing (or showing) a PSP 2 when there are a few big releases this year for the first PSP (Assassin's Creed, Little Big Planet, others)? I think I even remember Sony saying that 2009 was the year of the PSP.

Knowing GI and their relationship with Activision, I'm gonna guess it has something to do with the next Tony Hawk game (with its skateboard controller).

I owned a Wii for 3 months and got sick of it. The idea of focing more systems to have motion controllers doesn't sit with me.

Fine, do it, but leave the option of standard controls in the games! Don't just force the new controls on us and get mad when we don't like it.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking that.

Actualy, the only thing I look forward to at E3 is any announcments from Atlus. Unless the ESRB goes and ruins their plans again like they did before. And before. And before.

I hope not. We really don't need it. I'm hoping for a Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic 3 console announcement. I won't hold my breath but it would be nice.

Actually, it's Modern Warfare 2.

I read that as cameltoe. It really changed the whole sentence.

For myself (and I feel most people here) the announcements that arent the "megatons" usually mean more. Knowing the biz its probably related to Final Fantasy,MGS,Mario,Halo,Zelda,God of and/or Gears of war or games of that stature.

Eh? What did the ESRB do to Atlus?

Stole their thunder for some of their then upcoming releases. Before Atlus made a proper announcement for a batch of games the ESRB posted the games rating data. Not a real big deal, unless your fans are as loyal, rabid and obsessed as the Atlus fans.

HD Wii? Isn't that like a Yugo Dragster? Err, just trying on the hate... No sir, I don't like it. :D

It's not a Call of Duty game, and it is exciting. Year defining? Probably not, but I'm looking forward to it.

Give me a Diablo 3 release date. THAT would be year defining.

Ah. Yeah, perhaps the ESRB should hold back publishing game ratings. Though I don't think it's that big of a deal and if Atlus fans really freaked out over it then maybe Atlus's next game should be titled "Chill Pill."

It's not so much that the fans went beserk. Hell, much of what was anounced made the fans extremly pleased. Problem was it stole all of Atlus' thunder and kind of tipped their hand as to what they had licensed and what they had not. Not many companies care to have their big announcments made without their knowledge but Atlus still handled it better then most with their newsletter anouncments.
