Does anyone know for sure who developed Chiller for the NES? I've got conflicting information--even the box is less than clear on the subject.

THANKS!

Any clues in the manual? I've got a CIB copy at home, but you'll have to wait until I get out of work to take a look.

Was this the game that could only be ordered directly from the company or am I thinking of something else? I recall there being an interesting looking ad for it in magazines...but, that's about it.

I got mine, CIB, off a video store, so perhaps they were distributed to stores?

Where was this available? I just found out about this game and don't ever remember seeing it. It was official Nintendo licensed and 1986, right?

It was unlicensed for the NES and the NES version came out in 1990, the original arcade version was 1986.

All I remember is it came in a unique gray cart I never saw on any other game ever.

Also, unlike the Arcade version it was actually beatable (though all that happened was it would loop)

I used to have a cart-only copy, but I sold it.

I can only remember trying this once and wondering why people weren't complaining about this game in the '80s like they were Mortal Kombat in the '90s. It's excessively violent and not very fun. :P

It's tough on an emulator with a trackball/simulated firing control, but if you have the game in a Crossbow cabinet I could probably beat it.

Crossbow, Cheyenne and Chiller are personal favorites and a few arcades I frequented in the day had them long enough for me to master.

It's not great on the NES, I've got a copy and when I did have CRT TVs I could never get it to recognize functional light guns as well as 1st party games like Duck Hunt or Hogan's Alley.

Yeah, I had that problem too. And I tested the light gun on Duck Hunt afterwards so I knew it was just the game was screwed up, not the light gun.

At least you could play it with a normal controller, though that kind of defeats the purpose.

That's a problem even using an NES emulator with mouse-enabled Zapper controls. The arcade version runs like a champ in MAME.

I love Chiller, mostly because you can show it to somebody and it's pretty much the most shocking thing imaginable. It's kind of a fun target-shooting game, too.

No kidding!

I did a google search for it and all I found were screenshots from the game of people getting tortured...

I have a cart-only copy of this game that I bought at a garage sale when I was a kid.

Ironically enough, I thought the cart was broken until about 2 years ago when I finally learned it was a light-gun game!
