I had the same 360 since the first year it came out. It has never had a problem. I think it locked up maybe 2-3 times in all those years.
So last night I played some Soul Calibur 4 and turned it off to put the kids to bed. When I went to turn it back on I got the 3 red lights. The power supply light is green, which is an indication of hardware failure. I called Microsoft and it is not under covered anymore.
UGH! This comes at a bad time because I have had some unexpected expenses lately. Anyone know of any reputable places that can repair it for reasonable price?

When my first 360 RROD I sent it to Comco Inc in Bettendorf Iowa, it was 29.95 to check it out and give an estimate.
http://www.comco-inc.com/xbox-xbox-360-repair-p29933.html
That was 3 years ago, I don't know if the prices have changed, but the company was VERY good to work with, I don't know about repair prices cause my system was too damaged to repair.
It's the only place that I know of that does 360 repair.

Yeah, it sucks. Mine kicked the bucket about 3 months after the warrenty expired. It wasn't the 3 red rings, but Microsoft still wanted 100 dollars to fix it. I just sold my broken one eventually, and got one of those "Arcade" bundles for $200.

Well, keep in mind my philosophy: It's broken anyway, you're not gonna make it worse.
That said, there are plenty of sites about that explain how to repair a 360. As long as you have a Torx bit of the right size (8, I think?), then you can get it open (though that's actually the hard part).
Once it's open, you can usually repair it with the clever use of a hairdryer for about 3 minutes-ish on the HANA/ANA chip. I once fixed one like this. However, any injury or product damage you might sustain is entirely NOT MY FAULT. Please also look up better instructions than this.
Good luck.

yeah you can find people on craigslist to fix it or buy it off you to put towards a new one. Mine rrrod under warranty within a year and just recently after three years of ownership it started doing some weird things (disc driver errors and not always turning on....) repair is at least 100 bucks usually I sold it for 150 to a local shop that could fix it to resell and upgraded to a new system

I think getting jasper unit, is the way to go.
there are deals online that will allow you to grab brand new arcade unit for $150, and sell yours for peanuts.

I had to send in my 360 to get fixed last year around this time, but it's starting to act weird again. My brother is mostly the one that plays it and when he turns it on sometimes it won't sign him into XBox Live by itself (it's supposed to), he has to go to his profile and manually connect. Then once he's connected, he'll go up to his friends list and it will take a very long time for it to show which ones are online. Also, when he plays World at War, sometimes it will stay at the multiplayer mode for a long time saying something like "Downloading Game Settings", or "Please Wait" (in big white letters).
In case it really starts messing up again, will Microsoft fix it for free again if we call, (did they not fix it right the first time)?

Like others have said, if you can't find a repair shop for a reasonable price than just sell it as broken and put that money towards a Jasper board arcade.
I'm heading off in about an hour or so to buy an Arcade 360. I'm hoping that by now the units at our local, high-product-turnover EB (Canada) will be Jasper chipsets. They have the green boxes with that Pacman Arcade pack-in decal on the front. I've read so much confusing and conflicting info on the net that I'm assuming that if the package comes with a stand alone memory card, it's NOT the one I should buy, since all Arcade Jaspers have the memory storage on the machine itself but the Falcons do not, correct?
I don't actually log huge hours of gaming these days...so would it be wise to take my chances with the non Jasper unit or forget it?

First off, all of the problems you've described would be traced back to a poor quality internet connection as opposed to the system itself.
And if the system isn't still covered under the original warranty, you waited a year to report any issues after the last repair. Microsoft won't Microsoft won't repair it for free if you waited a year to report issues.

Can someone help me to understand which XBOX 360 Arcade Unit has the jasper chip? How can I tell? Amazon sells this one for 199.99

Read post #32 in this link (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=125022&page=2&highlight=jasper). I explain several different ways to determine if a system is a Jasper or not by either looking at the outside box(which is what you want to do) or the unit itself. If you ar buying an arcade unit from an online dealer you should definitely PM the seller these specific questions to make sure you are getting a Jasper and not a Falcon or(even worse) a Xenon.

looks like my best best is to sell the RROD 360 on ebay and just buy the updated Arcade Unit with the better chip - plus the new system will have an HDMI port which my RROD system did not have. Thanks for the link 12 P

It wasn't like that before, and it doesn't seem to be happening now. It was raining a lot on the days the system was going slow so that was probably the problem.

Well....no one had the Jasper that The 1 2 P described. I bought the latest Arcade with the 5 game arcade pack-in from EB. EB will replace a bad console with a brand new unit upon presentation of the receipt within the first 365 days from purchase. This puts me at ease and skips over the whole process of dealing with Microsoft. Not all EBs are bad. Our local one is great and is staffed with knowledgeable, helpful people.

Did you check their website. I think it's just xbox.com but my Xbox died through rrod thie past FEB and it was from around that era of production. I wasn't even the original owner of the machine and I didn't have any reciepts or warranties or anything like that. I just remember putting in the serial number and it said to put in my info and they'll send me a box within the next few days to send the machine back.

go to xbox.com>(support tab)contact support>repair you console(on index on the left). I remember it was really simple when I did it and I was like "was that it?" The whole process took about a month though but I got a working Xbox out of it.

Make sure you go to xbox.com to register your console, just to be on the safe side. Also, using the info I provided in that link what board did you get with your 360? A falcon?

I got a question. What does the three year warranty go by? I've heard Manufacturing date, but I got 2 systems both with man dates of mid 2006, but they are showing expired on xbox live. One just got sent in for the e74 error.

I believe that the Xbox 360 warranty(shown on xbox.com) only runs for a year from when you buy the system. However, if you happen to get a rrod or e74 error the warranty extends for another two years, but only for those two problems.

Really sorry to hear that man. Like someone said, check the local listings of craigslist or something. I happen to know a guy who can fix RRoD, he is my best friend. Why? Let me make you feel better. I have had 2 RRoD and 2 DVD drive failures. I have gotten a RRoD console to work for a few more months by getting the console worked on.
And now I have my 5th system, just this weekend too. It is a Jasper and I hope it does not crap out on me. My last system, an Elite, did not last 1 year and the drive died.

Just a quick update for anyone interested in hearing how this turned out. I decided to sell the RROD Xbox 360 on Ebay. I sold it with everything in the box except the hard drive. The auction closed for 66.00.
I used the proceeds to buy an Arcade Version 360. I used my exisitng hard drive. I am pretty sure I bought one with the Jasper Chip (150 W power supply , model # in the 900's). When playing it sounds quieter than my original 360. I bought it at Target and for an extra 19.99 I got their 3 year warranty. I probably did not need to spend the extra money but I want to be covered for at least 3 years.
The other nice thing is that the new system has HDMI (my old one did not). My TV does up to 1080i , so its not much better than component. And my TV has only only HDMI port - so I just take the HDMI from the cable box and put it in the 360 when I want to play. I use the 1 hdmi cable for both the 360 and cable TV.
Well that is the rest of the story. Thanks for reading.

I made this mistake. Target will absolutely do jackshit for you if your 360 RROD's while under their extended warranty. All they will do is refer you to Microsoft. This happened to me. :-/

When I worked at Toys R Us, it was pretty much the same deal. The store warranties are useless.

That doesn't seem right, the warranty states if they can't fix it - they will replace it. If it happens I will give them holy hell and get my satisfaction!!!

Congrats on the new model. May it live a long and prosperous life. As for the extended warranty, it probably wasn't neccesary but it won't hurt either.

Hey at least it was only $20 you wasted. I feel most if not ALL department store "warranties" are worth it.
