I'm in Japan now, but coming home soon, and wondering if people back in America would buy these games in Japanese (or should I just sell em here before I leave for literally dirt cheap, like less than 10 dollars total):

Radiata Stories
Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland
Disgaea
All FFs 7 through X2
Code Age Commanders

I checked ebay, and some other PS2 RPGs were going for 20-40 a pop, but I didn't see a single bid on them. What say you? I'm out of touch with the gaming crowd in America these days, but I was gonna dish em out on ebay for 20 dollars each and see what happens (if I can use ebay with a Japanese bank account).

Thanks.

bring them back and put them on auction for 99c. They will go up to their correct value, maybe not $40 each but at least 10 each. Have you checked the completed auctions search?

Not worth the effort. I don't know anybody that collects Japanese versions of RPGs tbat are released in English over here. Maybe if they were unreleased here and easy to play without translation, but it's just not worth the effort for the ones you listed.

Some people tend to prefer to play the Japanese versions of Super Famicom/Famicom games over the US ones (mostly because the US translations were pretty badly done). For later systems I really don't know if there is that kind of market for the foreign, non-English RPGs (at least those that have been translated). Untranslated RPGs, now, that's a different story.

Of course some people would collect them, but I wouldn't necessarily expect to get much money for them. In terms of selling Japanese RPGs in the US, it's best to sell either before a localization is done or if there is never a localization. I mean, I'm quite happy to play RPGs in Japanese, but even I'll take an English version if the option is there. I own lots of Japanese releases of RPGs that came out in the US, but the vast majority were purchased prior to the US release. The few I bought later were usually because I already had played the game in English and wanted to see what was different, often if the localization was sub-par.

Code Age Commanders was never released in English, so you might get $20 for that one. It's largely forgotten, though, and there's not too much demand for it.

You could try selling the rest of the games in one big auction; it'll probably bring in more than $10.

bottom line is unless you speak jap, you dont want a jap language rpg if an english version is available. and even if its not out there, fan translations are an option (or a plethora of other games to play). jap lang rpgs are useless here. people who buy them here are either japanese (and they usually already have the game anyhow) or completist die hard fans of the franchise who want ever release (especially since jap releases have different covers).

if your ffVII is the "international" (non greatest hits) release, i will pay a pretty penny for it.

Hey, sorry to take so long to reply to my own thread and revive it from the dead, but thanks for the responses.

The local video game store is willing to pay about 10 dollars for ALL the games I have, so I'll prolly try putting them all on ebay, and if even one goes for 20 dollars, it'll be worth it.

As for the FFs, the copyright dates on them are from the 90s, and they don't say anything about "greatest hits." They were a gift from a Japanese friend who is older, and I think he bought them when the games actually came out. Does that mean they are the "international" release? I'm pretty sure they are from before the games were considered greatest hits, at least.

And yea, I was wondering about demand for Code Age Commanders, since it doesn't exist in English, but I didn't think it was too popular, either. I'll see what happens with them all and let you know! Thanks for the help.

japanese language rpgs simply dont sell here. on ebay? perhaps you'll get a tiny bit of money, but even more likely itll be under 10$.

if an FF game is the international version, it says so on the box.
