I know that sports games are generally looked down upon here, but NHL 09 is awesome. Let me tell you something - NHL 09 is the first sports game for any system I've ever bought - and it is awesome. Even if you don't really like hockey it is still fun and realistic. I've had a great time with the Be a Pro mode, where you make a player and try to get him into the pros -- even though I'm still stuck in the minor leagues.

Anyway, I was just looking for people to play against online, and if we had enough, we could start a team in the EA Sports Hockey League. In that mode, you can have 12 players on the ice, each controlling one man. I haven't tried it out yet, but from what I hear it's even better than the Be a Pro mode.

My Xbox Live ID is Dahnosaur if anyone wants to add me. I have finals till next Saturday but after that if anyone wants to play I'd definitely be up for it.

Ive been a huge hockey game fan since the beginning... and the last 5 years everytime I pick up a new NHL game I pretend to be GM and sim games trade players adjust prices and it consumes my life and I love it...

when I heard about the be a pro feature this year I actually waited untill about a week ago to purchase 09 because I knew it would dominate my time... and it has...

I absolutely love be a pro mode... it gives me a wayyyy different outlook on hockey... some games Im watching my team from the penatly box or the bench thinking "man my team sucks" others I get a couple of goals and think Im on top of the world wondering what NHL contract awaits me after my minor league career is done...

its just mind blowing good... that said my xbox gamertag is CROM JR

's not just addicting..Be A Pro is like..WoW-addicting...I had to put it down so I could concentrate on other games for a while, but I've been thinking about getting back into it soon. :D Gamertag: JanLazer

I'm a very casual hockey fan. Everything I know about hockey I learned from NHL '94. I bought NHL 08 and sold it on ebay a few weeks later. Way too complicated. I played 5-6 games and never scored a single goal. I'll stick to NHL Hitz... Just my 2c. I like the depth of a modern sports game, but I can do without the ridiculous layers of controls.

I assume that the EA 09 game still uses the "newer" thumbstick control rather than the old-school face button layout? I can't seem to get the hang of it. Can you remap the control to face-button play (on the 360)? If not, I'll still have to stick with the 2K series.

Yeah, it does, but it really isn't that hard to understand. But you can change it so the controls are like the 1994 game, i.e. two buttons for shoot and pass. But the new controls really give you better shots, etc.

JanLazer and crom, I added you guys as friends, so if you want to play sometime, let me know.

After reading this thread I went and picked up NHL 09 for the PS3 (don't have a 360). I had been playing the NHL games from 03-07, but have been on a break since. Started playing as a goalie on allstar level, and man do I suck. Awesome game experience though, by far the best NHL game I have ever played.

Check out this (http://www.gamespot.com/sports/blogs/sports-blog/909097139/26880576/nhl-10-lets-get-physical.html?tag=topslot;title;2) info on NHL 10. A first person fighting engine and play along the boards. I have to hand it to EA - it looks like they are making the best sports game around even better.
