Tjeerd writes, "It seems that while 3D Realms is dead, some new footage has been leaked of Duke Nukem Forever." 3D Realms posted a brief good-bye to their website, and two of the developers have hosted screenshots and concept art from DNF on their personal blogs. Also, for those who haven't seen it yet, there's an entertaining list of things that have happened during DNF's development cycle.http://games.slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rss&op=image&style=h0&sid=09/05/11/0035242 (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/05/11/0035242&from=rss)

Careful. The gameplay footage is definitely NSFW.

Looks pretty damn good. Boy, I wish this wasn't released then I would say I could care less about the former staff getting around to completing it. As it stands I really hope someone finishes this game.
And yes, NWS/NSFW at all.

For 2 years development it looks pretty good.
For the 27 years they've been working on it, I'm not impressed.

If you are competing in a puzzle solving event and don't complete your solve you get a DNF, which stands for "Did Not Finish".

Just seems funny that the company shuts down and THEN we see some evidence the game might be real. Maybe if they'd dome this earleir they'd still be in business.

This is after about 2 years or so of development.
What I want to see is all of the scrapped versions they've chucked away over the last decade. There was the Quake II engine one we saw a bit of, the Unreal engine one with the badass trailer and now we've seen this one...but I want to see what was in between there. Looking for George's post about when this one actually started development.
The most important thing that every developer needs to have drilled into their heads from this and Daikatana is that switching engines should not be expected to be easy. EVER.

I have a feeling that these "leaked gameplay footage and scenes" will be around for another 13 years before people realize that this game still won't be completed.
I found the video to be very uninterested, then again I wasn't very interested in the game to begin with, then again I don't remember if I was interested to begin with 12 years ago when the game was originally announced.

Basically to sum up about how i feel about this (3D Realmes Closing) is Duke Nukem's first words in that gameplay footage. "NOW I AM REALLY PISSED OFF"!

I'm not worried...I know the game and it's entire franchise will be sold to another company and they (the other company) will release it.
Sure, I'm speculating, but I doubt the Duke franchise is without any interest to potential takers.

Well, it's just one short topless shot. Then again, what do you expect from Duke Nukem?
To be honest, I wasn't excited UNTIL I saw this trailer. I never played the series, except shareware releases of 1 and 2 (where he makes jokes about defeating the villain and being home in time for Oprah). I haven't been impressed with recent FPS trends, but I love that classic "just shoot" game design. This looked like a modern version of that kind of gameplay, where the focus is the action, not the crappy cut-scenes and dialog. Don't get me wrong, I love it when the dialog is actually meaningful, but I like my shooters to be about running and gunning.

Did you miss all the cussing and insults? Thats more likely why its NSFW then the 1 nude scene.

Looks a lot like Prey. Something about the character models and the shininess. I don't think a game that looks a lot like Prey was going to blow anyone away even if they got it together and somehow released it this year.

I suppose that the audio makes it NSFW. I watched it with more attention on the visuals and gameplay, so I didn't really think about it until now.
When DNF finally sees a release, I'm going to predict that it's a box-set. Disc one will be the ORIGINAL prototype, disc two will be the next one or two, disc three will be this one, and disc four will be the actual game not yet in production. Also included will be a letter of apology for the wait.

After thinking about it, the demise of Duke could never have come at a worse time.
Who will protect us from the swine flu now?

This game will be done one day...I'm sure of it. Then again I was sure of it 4 years ago too...

It looks like the game was gonna have lots of personality which was the best thing they could shoot for, considering the graphics, color me fairly impressed. Looks like it would have been an instant classic to me.

Uh oh, looks like Take Two isn't pleased (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/duke-nukem-forever/983202p1.html) with this turn of events....
I'm not sure if I should be on their side (contractually, the devs are at fault), or just laugh at them (they put $12M into DUKE NUKEM FOREVER? HAHAHAHAHA!!!).
Unrelated, but the middle judge in the picture they used looks a lot like Gordon Freeman, but maybe I could just be playing too much HL.

They didn't put anything into Duke Nukem Forever. They paid $12 million for the rights to be the sole publisher. That's it.
Now that's fucking retarded.
