I know I read a few comments in the past from people anticipating this game, but I don't see a thread for it. So, has anyone taken the plunge and picked up the new 360 or PS3 version?
I myself am going to wait for a bit. I enjoyed the first game but it never really hooked me the way I was hoping it would. I was pretty pumped when I heard there was going to be a console sequel, but after seeing some of the preview footage that excitement kind of waned. Nevertheless, I've been watching this release date and am really hoping this game can scratch my Diablo itch.

I'm going to try picking this up as soon as I get off of work. There has been a serious lack of action-RPG love this generation.

Heard the PC version was pretty buggy and I'm not quite sure how well it's been addressed. Not sure if I'd chance picking up the 360 version considering the differences in control and the inability to ever patch it should it have any nasty bugs (considering the developer went bankrupt and all). At least with the PC version the devs could work on patches in their free time (like on Vampire - Bloodlines and Anachronox).

i want to play a demo first. definitely wait for review though. this day and age its simply stupid to spend 60$ on a whim just like that. there is way too much information available to not make an informed decision.
having said that, i really hope its good. i love action rpg dungeon crawlers (a la dark alliance and champions of norrath). and i agree this generation certainly needs a couple.

I can't compare to the original PC release because I only started playing about a week ago (the PC version with the latest patch), but I haven't run into any crashes or significant bugs -- in fact, the only bug I've seen is one circumstance where I was supposed to gather x number of items by killing mobs, and only managed to find x-1 even after killing the entire mob group. The next time I came into the game, the missing item was on the ground and I was able to finish the quest.
Assuming the controls of the game haven't been botched during the port and that the latest patched code has made it in, then I expect that there wouldn't be any problems playing the console ports. As for whether the game is worth playing, I'd put it at the same level as I would Titan Quest -- not as good as Diablo II was, but definitely worth it for fans of dungeon crawlers.

I pretty much parade around forums saying "Champions of Norrath this..." and "Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance that..." Those two were my favorite. Fable II didn't have as much of an arcade feel as those, but I did/do love it. I was hoping this would be similar to those.
The reviews aren't terrible, which is a positive, so far at least.
I think I'm just afraid it will be a directing your hero control scheme, not a controlling your hero control scheme. That is, I'm worried I will be clicking on an attack command and the hero will just start attacking stuff, rather than me using the joystick to move the hero and mashing buttons to get her to attack.
Fantasy RPG Hack N' Slash is my thing.
I've been watching this game since I heard about it from a guy on the dev team who is a long time collector, Marc Oberhauser. I am tempted to spring for it new just to support his company (that is now in bankruptcy proceedings), but I'll probably wait for more details or a demo too. For a game that promises a hundred hours of grinding, a 30 minute demo is merited.

Yeah I want a demo as well. Has there been any word of one being on the way? It seems kind of weird to not have one out before the game is released. I know there is one for the PC version, so it's not like it's not doable.
Yep.....it's an RPG, lol. Seriously, I'll wait and see what the general concensus is first, perhaps wait for a demo.

After having played the game for several hours last night I can safely say that this game scratches the itch. The game is a bit rough around the edges but it does what it does well. I think many of it's middling reviews come from the fact that the game makes no attempt to innovate or reinvent the wheel, which I'm very very happy about.

I will snag this for sure when I can get a copy for around <$30.
I've had my eye on it for weeks, after seeing the videos of the game play and the reviews, i decided it was my kind of game, but not at full price.

So is it like Diablo, in that you just enter the attack command and your hero attacks, sort of indefinitely? Or are you directly controlling the character and pushing buttons to chop or cast or whatever?

Your toon will attack indefinitely as long as you keep the attack button held down. If you want to take individual swings with your sword (or whatever) repeatedly press the attack button over and over, otherwise it can simply be held down to initiate a chain of attacks.

I picked it up yesterday and spent a bit of time playing it. Honestly the controls are quite well done, but the interface could have used some serious tweaking. Also lacks any kind of real tutorial, so it's best to do a bit of research ahead of time.
It's a decent game, but I don't know why anyone in this day and age who hasn't already played Diablo 2 wouldn't just go get that instead. Honestly Sacred 2 pales in comparison. Maybe it's not fair to judge a game's worth based on the quality of another...but this genre has been ruled over by Diablo 2 for a decade now, the game is essentially the water mark for the genre.
The enemies are pretty generic so far, the mobs are small, the caves are small, the character classes are different, but don't really seem to stand out all that well. The classes just don't feel all that unique from one another...it seems like each one has another that's practically it's twin. Two spell casters, two tanks, one general class, and one ranged. Or something along those lines.
That being said, the map is HUGE. Lot's of land to explore and loot, with plenty of people around to give you generic quests for gold and experience. Everything is really just typical high fantasy with a bit of sci-fi thrown in to spice things up.
I dunno...I'll have to play more, but I'd suggest anyone who hasn't played Diablo 2, or even Titan Quest; to go out and buy either of those before they went out and laid down $60-$70 on this. It's okay...but that's really all it is.

You seem to underestimate the benefits of using a controller and laying on the couch, they may be better, but in this case I would go with convienence.

Not at all. I'd much rather play on the couch in front of my 42 inch television than in front of my PC. In the case of playing Sacred 2 over something like Diablo 2...there's just no contest. Diablo 2 is just too good of a game to pass up on IMO.
Sacred 2 is a good game and all. Anyone who likes this type of thing will find plenty of fun.

When you hit the button, does your character auto target, or are you walking around as your character using the joystick, and targeting with the joystick?
As far as comparisons to Diablo 2, I would probably still be playing that if there was a console version. If Diablo 3 comes out on console, I'll pre-order it, despite the poor console precedent. I never play PC games, so I'm out of luck. I may just be lucky because I don't really have time for 100 hour grinds. 15 hours (I'm sure I've gotten more like 25 hours out of it anyway) of Fable II seems fine to me.

Thanks for the impressions Drifter. I think I'm going to try to rent this tonight. The early summer always makes me want to play a good hack and slash game. Unfortunately I've played Diablo 2 to death so it can't really hold my attention for long anymore. I'm also looking forward to playing on my comfy couch and big screen as opposed to my ancient computer and rickety desk chair.

Well then I see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy Sacred 2. It's got everything you'd expect in a game like this. Controls are very well mapped out and responsive. They did a good job bringing it to the consoles.
I just hit level five with my Shadow Warrior, and the size of the map still floors me. There's easily fifty hours of over world exploration here, if I had to guess. Looks like I won't be stuck in the generic wolf filled forests the entire time either, I'm seeing what could be desert in the East.
The mechanics of character development are starting to make a bit more sense, and overall I like them. The rune system is a bit meh, but everything else is good and offers you a lot of different options for character building. Doesn't seem as stream lined, or balanced as Diablo 2...but it does the job well enough anyways.

I wasn't able to find it for rent, so I still haven't played it. I've read some great things about it so I'm pretty antsy to play it.
Unfortunately I've also read that it's a lot like the first one and just feels kind of pointless and empty. I hope that's not the case, because the first one only kept me interested for a week or so before I quit.
When do demos usually come out on XBL? I'm still hoping they will release one.

Ok I found a copy, have played a bit and although it is very early in the game still, I want to go ahead and give my initial impressions and thoughts.
First off, the game is quite a bit different than the pc version, the item management can take a bit to get your head around as it isn't the standard grid based screen, this will no doubt upset some item managers. It's menu based purely and for a console it works, makes managing items much more fast and efficient. Most notable difference is the fact that you cannot drop items, I want to get this outta the way as immediately people are gonna freak about this, but think about it.... the console version servers are player side based, duping would become a serious issue, so i'm glad they did it, very glad, get over it.
This game is NOT I repeat NOT Champions of Norrath or Baldurs Gate, it shares basic concepts with those but that's about it. It's more like Oblivion/Diablo 2 as you have heard, no real set direction except for the main quest and you won't feel all powerful from the get go. It will seem like the game has hit detection problems, but it's cause you have to raise your skills and %'s. Combat is as much planning as it is execution. It has more of a somewhat tactical feel than other games of this type, that's not to say that it isn't action, cause it's all action, just that there is more flexibility in what you can do and take on, a bit more skill based than just button mashing.
I imagine people that like these types of games will be split on this one, personally I like it... alot. It has a new feel and doesn't feel totally copied off the genre. It took me about a good 2-3 hours just to wrap my head around how the game works, but after that, it's really nice.
I won't lie, the first 2-3 hours I really wasn't liking it, but once I got it down and "got it", now i'm really having fun. I really like that you can scrap items on the go and sell them for about 1/3 their value, you're like your own traveling merchant.
A couple of things that people should know before hand also. The text is VERY small and obviously meant for an HDTV, so get ready, you have been warned. Also the character creation really sucks and is pretty much none existent, if one thing this is where the game is hurt most, but once you get that uber armor who cares right?
So all in all the best advice I can give is tweak the audio/video/character setup for the first hour, then for the next 1-2 hours try and understand what makes the game work, cause imo it's worth it, I can see people getting hyped, popping this game in and being severly disappointed, just stick in there and get into the gameplay and it will grow on you.

I was a HUGE fan of the original Sacred on PC. My girlfriend and I bought the Gold edition and played it for months on end. I see everyone comparing Sacred 2 to Diablo 2, Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance, Champions, and Untold Legends... But what about the original Sacred???
How does Sacred 2 compare to the first installment?
Also I was at Best Buy this afternoon and looked at a copy of Sacred 2 and was amazed to see that Blind Guardian's logo blessed the back of the case!!! :band:
What the hell is the deal here?! Did they do the music for the game or something?! Having Blind Guardian on board would make the game WELL worth the 60 dollar price tag! If so then I am going to snag a copy next payday.

"Blind Guardian" - top notch metal bards - will produce a song for Sacred 2 and perform in the game!
Soon "Blind Guardian" fans can admire their heroes as computer game characters! As part of a unique cooperation with ASCARON Entertainment, one of the leading German developers of computer software, the fantasy metal rockers will have a guest appearance in the long-awaited PC and Xbox 360 title SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel. To provide a fitting soundtrack, "Blind Guardian" will record a special song for the game, which will be released as a separate single next year. In addition, the video for the new song will feature clips taken straight from SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel.
To make the Sacred world of Ancaria tremble with the band's rocking tunes players must solve a special quest to unlock the bonus. They will then be treated to the motion-captured Blind Guardians performing their new song "live".
For more than 20 years, "Blind Guardian" have been a force to be reckoned with in the German rock scene. Many fans consider the critically acclaimed new album "A twist in the Myth" the Krefeld-based bands best to date.
A little searching revealed all this from the Sacred 2 site!!!
This is just too freakin' cool! I was going to wait for the game to drop a bit in price, but hell with that! I'm picking it up next weekend! I'm curious as to what the quest is that unlocks their performance?
This really reminds me of Dark Stone on the PC. It was a Diablo style game, that had a very similar thing. There was a beggar or musician in town and if you donated enough money to him it would unlock a video of some band playing a kick ass song!

You also get their instruments after you complete the quest, which are really kick ass! As a High Elf I am personally using the Microphone and Drumstick atm, but the coolest to me is the Guitar which gives a % bonus towards better drops, but my Elf can't use it.
After you complete the quest you can watch the concert again as the npc stays there and the clip is re-watchable. It's really funny seeing all the monsters rock out at the concert, lol. Needless to say this is one of the most unique/cool things i've ever seen in one of these types of games ever.
Btw, I found and beat the quest at level 12 so you don't have to wait too long and seeing as you can start new games with your leveled character I imagine you can reload a campaign at any time and get the weapons/instruments at a higher level, not sure about that though. All I know is they thought out alot of things and using characters in multiple modes is a breeze while seeming to also dodge the duping/leveling cheat loop hole that usually plaques these types of games, you can tell they really thought out how to make it work and what is allowed. Down the road if someone finds a way to dupe and what not I imagine it will be through trading, though it seems pretty tightly designed.
I have yet to tests much of the online portion as I am currently enjoying the offline campaign, but I did join someones server last night and when I left, I didn't take the experience I earned, but I did get the items, whether it's cause there was a 10 level gap on that particular server i'm not sure, but I did level, there seems to be a formula to it for sure, not just half assed and thrown together without thought.
There is also Free World play and Freeworld PvP, both of which I have yet to try.

The Blind Guardian quest/concert was very cool. :guitar: Very nice addition to the game IMO. Great song too.
So I've been playing this pretty steadily over the past week or so. I've warmed up to it considerably over that time...enough to consider it to be my favorite action RPG since Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. It took me a while to completely grasp the concepts of character creation and development, but I think after burning through a few toons that I've got it pretty well figured out.
The mobs do in fact get much bigger. Griffons, Tree People, Trolls, Dragons...all of them are very large and impressive. Group sizes increase significantly as you explore the map further. I'll never forget my Seraphim looking over the crest of a hill and seeing an army of skeletons numbering at least in the thirties. About two minutes later all that was left was a pile of bones.
It's a shame that Ascaron stuck with a lot of the typical tripe as far as mobs go. You get all your mythological and Tolkien type enemies, and not a lot in the way of anything new or interesting. Sacred 2's world feels just like most every fantasy world I've plodded through a hundred times before. Thankfully they included different areas like deserts, wastelands, jungles, and volcanic islands to help break me out of the snooze fest that is forests and fields.
Quests also get a bit tiring after a while. I've found myself totally avoiding quests in the cities, since they all just involve walking back and forth through boring streets. I'd rather hack my way through an army of mobs to pass the time than run through one more boring city street. Since every quest boils into a FedEx mission you'll be doing a lot of running back and forth.
Not that questing matters all that much. Going out into the wild and hacking/shooting/casting is really the best way to gain XP and level anyways.
Anyways, despite the flaws I've mentioned, I'm still enjoying the game a lot. The map is huge, and there's plenty of loot to gather. In the end that's really all I play these games for anyways: the illusion of actually accomplishing something when I gain a level or find that killer magic sword.

360 users have gotten a patch already, so that's good news. I was afraid the game wouldn't be recieving any support since Ascaron had to file bankruptcy.
I still don't have the game because the idiot I bought a lot from on ebay decided to try and rip me off by not including the game. I picked it up this week and put in about 6 hours or so. Fantastic game so far. I have no idea what the reviewers are complaining about. This is exactly what I expected it to be...a Diablo-esque, hack n' slash, RPG loot fest. The visuals look great and the soundtrack is subtle yet very pleasant (almost an Elder Scrolls vibe soundtrack-wise). If you go into the game wanting any of these things, Sacred 2 delivers. At least it has for me so far.
I just picked up Infamous, so Sacred 2 is getting put aside for a little while. No big deal. I'm eager to start playing again soon.

Well I finally decided to drop some money on a new Vizio HDTV instead of settling for the VGA cord. It's amazing!!! Now I can actually read the text in Sacred 2!!! LOL
In all honesty I am really impressed with Sacred 2. My girl and I have been playing it non stop and we are helping each other make sense of the game mechanics and menus. Seriously i'm over 10 hours in and i'm still figuring stuff out as far as specing my character and menu navigation. But my biggest fear has been lay to rest: It is still Sacred!!!
Initial impressions scared me a bit. The game went with a lush, almost cartoony look IMO, where as the original was a bit darker and more realistic looking. Some other mechanics were changed as well, but all in all it still FEELS like a Sacred game. They even kept the hidden items scattered throughout the world that sparkle a bit. It also retains the comedic elements Ascaron instilled in the first game. Some quests are quite humorous and reading the various tombstones in the graveyards is always entertaining.
So far I have been nothing but pleased with Sacred 2. It has beautiful graphics, a memorable sound track, and need I say more... Blind Guardian!!! It's a near perfect follow up to the first. Although it does have a few issues. As everyone else is saying it is is confusing to wrap your head around all the menus and game mechanics at first and the text is virtually unreadable on a CRT TV, but If you are looking for Diablo style game or if you were a fan of the original Sacred, then this game is for you!

The patch just came out in Europe this week and should hit US this next week.
Offline co-op trading and various bug fixes are main issues being addressed.
Two things I recommend. Back-up everytime you quit as if you try and load an old back-up
online trading will be disabled as the game is tracked online and needs the exact data loaded as when you quit.
The other is be careful around Griffinborough, especially if you have been playing for hours. The area is very CPU intensive and may cause your ps3 to heat up more than usual. I've gotten where I take breaks every 3 hours or so as this game is fairly hard on the ps3 at times and starts lagging up a bit which has to do with caching I believe which I hope they also address.
If it wasn't for these silly bugs I swear this would be my favorite game atm, really it is, but the bugs can get a tad annoying, damn the game is addictive though.
Btw, Blind Guardian guy makes a great Hireling, lol, he is invincible!
P.S.,
Don't know why my gamertag doesn't update with Sacred 2 trophies, kinda weird cause I have like 60%.

You're really just helping the host finish his/her game I believe you may get quest rewards though never paid much attention and you can get quests and turn them in but they don't count towards your campaign, I do know you keep levels and items of course and helping someone in campaign means later they may help you and when you get to platinum you're gonna need some help, mainly cause the bosses regen energy much faster. Course i'm on platinum about 10-20 levels outta range, lol.
I imagine Niob is gonna be pretty tough even at same level, haven't gotten there yet though.
To clarify, the patch has been out for the PC and 360 versions for several weeks now. Not sure why it's taking so long for the PS3 version.
Cause of the cross account play and Sony's stance on no developer can release an update patch till 30 days after release and quality inspection.
Least with PS3 cross account play you don't have to pay for two gold accounts.

if anyone still cares theres a PC demo, I don't know how far it lets you get but it lets you be every character/class/whatever as far as I can see
It only lets you be that angel thing on the cover. Luckily that's the class I wanted to be.

I just started playing. A bit easy, even though played a little over five hours. It's a pretty good game though.

I believe they just released a gold edition of Sacred 2, so the original PC Version dropped in price. I have been trying to find the expansion, but it seems it was only released in Europe or for download. I may buy the gold edition if I ever see it cheap (I already have Sacred 2, have not gotten into it yet...).

I think it works really well for PS360. The four face buttons Square, Triangle, O, and X, act as your four attacks. R2 + the four face buttons gives you access to four others. L2 + the four face buttons give access to four others. However you want to set them up. It's fairly good on knowing which person you want to lock onto when attacking based on direction faced and distance of opponent.
For PC it's probably click or hotkeys. With Diablo 2, I really didn't like having to hotkey over to switch to whatever different attacks I wanted to use. So on Diablo I tried to keep two alternate attacks I'd use.

On PC I can only get 2 attacks to go into the hotkeys O.o wudafuxup

You have a PS3 yet? I know before you were interested. It's 19.99 for PS3 or 360 at Gamedays sale right now. That's the only way I'd know how to fix the problem since I don't play many games on PC.
