Hey all,
Normally I would post this to the weekend finds, but I'm jacked about this one. I went to an auction in out in the sticks that had a "huge video game" for sale. I went and found out that it was an enviromental sit-down Afterburner II by Sega. The cabinet needed to be cleaned and the coin box was detached from the cabinet. I waited around for 3 and a half hours watching the broken table saws and beat up fishing rods go by before they got to it. The auctioneer started it out at 500 dollars, no one bid. Down to 200,still no one. I jumped in at 100 dollars and no one said anything. One minute and thiry agonizing seconds later, I was the proud owner of my first sit down cabinet. :-D
I am still getting the moving arrangements worked out . It weighs around 500 pounds. I will post pictures when I get it home.

Does it still work? Where are you gonna put it? :D

Nice find. Last auction I was at, a standup Afterburner went for around $150 and it was kind of beat.

That thing is a monster, good luck moving it! :)

Hey Bratwurst,
Yeah, it is working fine. The sticker around the flightstick is missing, but other than that it is in really good shape.
As far as where I am going to put it... Good question. I am going to back one of the cars out of the garage for awhile. My wife is actually being pretty cool about the whole thing. It will not fit down any of the hallways in my house and I don't think I am going to able to talk her into leaving it in the living room!
It's final destination will either be a storage unit or possibly <shudder> E-bay.

Nice find....
I'm anxious to see pictures of this big machine.
500 pds Wow! :o .....It must be huge.. @_@
I think I saw a machine like that at an Arcade once and it was huge.

I'm glad your wife is cool about it..
My wife won't let me put another cab in here..My Tekken 3 is still sitting in storage..But,
I want a second Neo Geo Dedicated cab..
She'll go nuts..but maybe after she reads this thread and sees your machine and how cool your wife is about it..I can get another Cab..

I got my eyes on one close by...

Dang, 500 pounds is more than 5 times as heavy as my largest computer (when I've got it fully loaded up)...can't you break it down to move it? If not, get ahold of somebody who's got a flatbed dolly or something of that sort.

"Booyah! 1st enviromental score"

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought the text of this message would be Jestr saying "Great news guys! Today I fucked a tree! It was great!" Just kidding.

Congrads on the Afterburner 2 score. I have two cockpit games... Discs of Tron and Star Wars (Atari version). Discs of Tron is still a work in progress, but I'm happy to have it. And Star Wars... what can I say? It's a classic, and it's near mint. Best thing about cockpits is they look so damn cool... bad part is they take up too much space. Oh well, at least you got a good deal.

$100... goddamn, you bastard ;) And you had the patience to wait out $200. Sir, my hats off to you... I would have NEVER, ever, ever ever had it in me to do that.

BTW, my advice to you on how to store it is this: If you have a basement that is exposed to the ground, then knock a wall out a stick it in there. That's what I had to do to get a couple of my oversized machines and my pool table down there. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you do it... and obviously be prepared to rebuild the wall as soon as you're done. Actually, I simply put in a large door. Nothing too fancy, but it works.

I was just telling my fiance the other day about that machine. Good I love that game, Genesis version is cool, but it can't compare to that sit down one. Great find man, good luck moving it.

Or just find a couple of guys who are in decent shape. 500lb is not that much, my brother and I routinely move 800 lb pianos with just the two of us. Hell, if you're anywhere that I could get there, I'd help you out... where are you?

Hey Chadtower,
I'm in Northern Illinois, so I doubt you will be able to get here by tonight! Thanks for the offer though.
I'm going to get it tonight, hopefully I will be able to post pictures tomorrow. Thanks for all the responses. After I read Charlie's I damn near pissed myself!
